Absolute nightmare today. I had 165 tracked and 7 customer collects. Also 15 timed specials. How can I ever get loops done? Not even got time for the toilet. Flat out for the whole 4 and a half hours out there.
Four and a half hours? Are you part time, can’t get mine done with the sheer volume of Mail and parcels,in under 5 ,usually 6 hours and I don’t buy this bollocks about Mail being down either , not after the volumes this week. Busiest week I’ve ever seen in the last 2 weeks , 4 mech trays on a Monday ffs and we’ve got the brain dead morons keep getting D2D’s booked in to add to the already unachievable workload.
Probably down to it being the start of a new financial year. Firms sending out end of financial year stuff

So the D2D's on one walk will only have 2 days to prep in and deliver, and the other walk will have 3 days, given that you are also prepping in effectively two days mail (minus fist class), I think they have miss calculated the amount of addresses we will be hitting if they want the D2D's to be delivered in one week, which they will :hmmmm

Going back to the start of this does anyone suspect that the chances of this outfit successfully planning and implementing the scenario they're suggesting are so miniscule to the point of being almost zero, could it be possible that they might settle for dropping Saturday mail delivery as has been assumed numerous times, but with the exception of also committing to deliver only 1st class mail along with parcels etc on a Saturday.

no D2Ds mentioned there either.
Bob will prep and deliver the lot.
Yup, Bob the new start, on docket, that won't be paid for months on end because "monthly pay" :left:
If it's your managers f**k up with your docket you phone wages dept, tell them you are having financial difficulties due to your manager not putting your overtime, through before the deadline. They can make a special fast track payment which goes into your bank by 4.30 pm that same day. It cost RM about £27 to do it that way but you will get your money. And your manager will get their ass kicked for not doing their job. Why should you wait several weeks for your money. Especially if your on the shifty new paid monthly contracts. Don't let management away with not doing their jobs. A lead .com with 5 or more years in the job is on £54,000 a supplement of £2,000 or £4,000 depending on the size of the office and how many staff are under them. It's called a lead com allowance. They get plenty. Make them do their jobs.

My point was, the majority of non 'legacy contract' monthly paid OPGs at DOs will have absolutely no clue about this.

Coupled with 'just started a new job, at the famous Royal Mail' they will probably be f****d over, working for free etc.

Thank your overlords for that though, the same ones that keep CEOs out of prison :shhhhh

Maybe, but it is a recent thing in our office. You were automatically given a contract after your probation period, but this has changed in the last few weeks here. Nobody is getting one now. Even those who are good at the job.

Well, the business does have a long term strategy to reduce the USO. Perhaps if your office is well staffed with duties being complete every day and few permanent employees expected to leave in future then obviously RM might have no other option but to not renew the newer contracts until they get their desired balance of staff.

All I'm going to say regarding mail volumes is that I used to deliver 2, and at the most, 3 bags of mail back in the day. There was plenty of scope to do an extra round on overtime and still finish well before Countdown on channel 4 (I was always good at letters...)

Since privatisation, we have been consistently force fed that the business is continually making losses and needs to urgently reform the USO yet today we delivered at least 15 bags of mail and parcels, which are more profitable than the mail. That also includes the bigger parcels that dedicated parcel drivers used to do, collection boxes that collection drivers used to do as well as several free pickups aka consumer collections.
Pretty much.

How many letters did RM deliver in a peak year? I forget because they NEVER mention it. That peak was 30 years ago, so the decline has been an incredibly slow avalanche.

Their other favourite phrase, ‘due to the increase in parcel volumes’, is a voodoo mind trick they are playing to convince themselves that they’re increasing when they’re not. The peak in parcels was COVID. They have since declined to pre-Covid volumes, but they don’t want anyone to notice that because they’ve thrown everything at parcels and yet they have not increased.
I agree COVID was nuts, two trolleys for me as a minimum every day. But I don't agree that parcels have not increased, I am lucky to get my duty into one trolley most days and it's been like this for months pretty much. Had enough, a Saturday few weeks ago I had 55 tracked, people need to go down the shops a bit more, should never be handling this many parcels, yes it keeps us in a job but I struggle to complete (like most of us of course) and am knackered, stick lapsing on top I either cut off or do overtime!

I only go by RM’s own figures and I posted those figures on the previous page of replies.
Some offices probably are seeing more parcels, some are just seeing the same as always but they look like more because they are being split into DPR routes rather than walk routes.

Yes, there has been a rise in tracked postage being bought, but that’s not the same as an increase in parcels sent, it’s just higher sales if a label which also goes on letters and flats.

Dropping Saturday mail delivery is fine but . . . What about the numerous frames that wont have gone out on the Friday? In my office its a fight to even make sure each frame is delivered every other day.

Anyone knows what will happen to people with disabilities or cancer like myself (DDA)who are currently on ring fenced duties?
Are they/we going to be forgotten or just literally pushed to the limit in the hope they/we are forced out by royal mail?
I would not call this a reasonable adjustment to accommodate staff's disabilities/health issues so potentially royal mail could be taken to task over this?
Any advice appreciated.

In addition, they are open to accusations of ageism because heavier and longer walks will and do have a detrimental impact on older workers.

Industrial action might be making a return.

One of the key objectives in the deal was that there was to be a commitment to no compulsory redundancies. Wasn't there supposed to be a joint review next April 2025? They probably won't need it as thousands have already left or are planning on taking the reduced voluntary anyway.

There could also be constructive dismissal claims brewing because of the change in hours at some locations and the limited offering of exemptions.
