I don't know what the eff people are discussing in here....

but...

Some offices have agreements where posties essentially have a 20 minute break instead of a 40 minute total break, they can leave 20 minutes 'early' as part of their 'break'.....totalling 40 minutes.

It's setup this way, this is in agreement with Royal Mail, so they are NOT clocking out early.
That’s how our office runs.
And ours. Well, half of it. The other half deliver to a different area of town, and are allowed to take their full 40 minutes (20+20) at the end of their shift, we have asked and asked and even though we are ‘all one team’ we are not allowed to take 40 at the end, only 20. And then there’s yet another section who deliver to another postcode and are allowed to flex which basically means they are working 5.30am ish to 1pm. Again I’ve asked if we can flex and do those hours too, not allowed.

Only at Royal Mail.
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.

Yes we have been taking our full relief at the end of the shift but the gaffer says this must now be a max of 20 mins. The DPR drivers just do what they want and I imagine will continue to do so.

Tried explaining this to a new start recently...
"So if you're in section 1+2 you have to come in on SA which means an hour earlier start on Mondays and Thursdays, half hour early on Fridays and Wednesday. That section can only take 20 minutes meal relief off the end of their duty. Section 3 doesn't get SA but can take 40 minutes meal relief at the end on Tuesdays, 20 the rest of the time. Sections 4+5 are the furthest from the DO, get no SA (so watch those in 1+2 leaving an hour before them to do walks that are much closer to the DO,) but until November could always take 40 mins meal relief at the end, only now it's only 20 but you'll never have time left as the closest walk is 25 minutes drive away. All sections must not clock out until exact time on a Saturday, regardless, so wherever you are always take breaks on a Saturday. Section 6 is a lawless wasteland with no manager"
I don't think anyone at RM knows what's happening at any point, reactive management at its finest

Same here
And it is over 7hrs per day 7hr 24min
If im finishig after 3 im going to be asking for full break in middle of day 20 mins early break no use you will have had breakfast already
And 20 min at the end no point
If everyone asked for break in middle of day they would change their agendas
we currently take the full 30 or 40 mins meal relief everyday between 1- 2 pm and claim anything from 45 mins to 2 hrs excess everyday . All my previous jobs had a meal break and this job is no different , why wouldn’t people take what they’re entitled to ?

Especially if you drove back to the office to take it , as there are no suitable facilities available.

Same here. About 10 different divisions in the same office. Some can flex all of their break, some half, some none. It's entirely down to the line manager's discretion. There are no set rules on this at the moment, and anyone being told otherwise is being lied to.

Apparently our start times 8.12
7hrs 24 min every day
Meaning 15.36 finish every day
( less 20 min meal rel )
It's supposed to be 40mins total break times for that length of shift
We are allowed to finish 20 minutes early if we have half our break, so Hans might have meant that.
6.45 7.15 7.00 7.15 7.15 6.15. Start times
6.59 7.29 7.14 7.29 7.29 6.29 35 hr times
20/20 min split break usually about 8.45 and end of shift
P&l always late

22 miles from mail centre
30 mins when roads quiet
Less than a 7 hour shift is only 30mins total breaktime.

Are you physically staying on site and not just scanning out and going home 20mins early? In the current climate I don't think it's going to be long before the higher ups start questioning COMs, MCMs and shift managers (in any MC or DO) about any occurrences of people finishing before their official finish time
I can’t speak for others, but we just scan out twenty minutes early. It has been that way since scanning in and out started, so if it was causing issues for our managers, I’m sure it would have been stopped by now.
It doesn't cause an issue because it if factored into the siso times if that's the way do it in your office. It's the same in mine and hundreds of others, it it was sorted with the knowledge of the higher ups as space phoenix like to call them.
When your DO is next told to make savings, if you add up all them 20mins or however much time you're making every day, they're going to be told that they're having at least them hours taken out your DO.
Not they are not, you don't know what you're talking about! Nobody is making 20 minutes, it's half their allowed break which they are allowed to take at the end of the duty, makes no difference that they are signing out 20 minutes before their time because the siso has been set with the finish time 20 minutes earlier to allow for the part of meal relief. So people are clocking off at the correct time not 20 minutes early. My finish time is 14.55 but the siso is set for a clock out time of 14.35 it's that simple
There's no such thing as a "clock out time" with the SISO. It just sends a record of any sign in or sign out scans off to wherever they process the data. If you scan out at 14:35 the system will show you as finishing at 14:35. It doesn't record any reason for an early scan out.
No you’re wrong our duties have been set up on siso so we can take 20 mins of our meal break when we get back and go 20 mins”early”…its been confirmed by the manager and the rep…our new times are 1:30 later but still reflect the 20 mins at the end meal break as we do now

I wonder what will happen to the unscrupulous characters who come in early then go out and do ghost overtime.

The system will still show you as scanning out 20mins early. The manager can add a note but that has to be done every day for every staff member. Do you seriously think the manager is going to bother to do that?

"The SISO has been set up so we can leave 20 mins early"

I despair, I really do.

The SISO has been " set up" to record the time you scanned out. Nothing more, nothing less.

Your scanning out times show managers what time you finished your shift - and your break is built into your shift.

In other words, your sign-out time includes all work and full break taken.

No informal "local agreement" will change that

I don't know how else to explain this

And the system will also show you as having only previously had 20 minutes either before or on delivery. I would have your own break on the subject :arrrghhh

Nope, the system doesn't record when you took a break. If it did it'd have an option to record that you're using your break :cuppa

No. It really won't.

The "system" shows when you scanned out the office, after all your work and breaks. That's all.
