Re: Later start times
So 12 pages on and everyone is just guessing. No one has a clue and won't know until next Monday.

Re: Later start times
Why can't we have no managers, or less managers. 99.9% of my time speaking to managers is about what to take out with me. I could work this out myself....or if the job was achievable within time - I'd never have to ask. And asking often leads to arguments because the manager is completely unrealistic. It's even led to me and others going off with stress.Kesknight wrote: ↑14 Feb 2024, 17:37I've been a Postman for almost 37 years. I certainly have no stress. I work in a small rural office, i just start on time and finish on time. Our manager is based 30 miles away, we only see him every few months, nobody bothers us. I realise i'm lucky compared to alot.
I look forward to hearing my later start time next week.
Is it true that they don't care about the people who need to pick up their kids from school? - they won't be getting their 'family friendly hours'? if so, they're trying to push more people out the door.

No they won't, they've done a deal so supernumerarys don't have to go on delivery. Jobs for the boys.citypostie wrote: ↑14 Feb 2024, 20:27Don't worry they are planning on filling those vacancies with supernumerary workers from mail centres plus the extra ones that will be created when the hubs take more work away from mail centres. If those workers are anything like the ones we've had comes across from collections they won't last more than a fortnight so it's a short term solution but if they leave by their own choice it's a win for royal mail because it saves having to payout even the new crappy vr terms on offerLouBarlow wrote: ↑14 Feb 2024, 17:20What are you basing this on? They can’t retain staff now. It is no good having later and later times if you have no workers to fill the hours.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑14 Feb 2024, 12:22I think within a year it's gong to be 90 mins everywhere and I can't see the union being able to do anything about it.taurus88 wrote: ↑14 Feb 2024, 12:18Tbh, that’s a fair summation of where the union’s at nowadays. Without them, you’d be starting 90mins later. With them, you’ll start a mere 82mins later.Ren Hoëk wrote: ↑13 Feb 2024, 19:15It is RM driving this change. NOT the union. It will be the hard work of the union that has mitigated the later starts for the majority of the offices. Without union involvement you will have been told it will be 90 minutes later and thats that. Like it or lump it.
What would you have done differently? Do tell?

Re: Later start times
Well said. It's all just guess work at the moment. It's a good site this but there's too much doom and gloom. At the end of the day it's a job, you only have to start on your time and finish on your time. Nobody can make you do anything different.

Until they bring in commit to deliver.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Re: Later start times
That will never happen. Its not even legal. That was simply a scare tactic.
They would need to fire and rehire everyone currently contracted for starters.
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

My gut feeling is if anything we’ll be starting at least 200, maybe 300 hours laterSean06 wrote: ↑14 Feb 2024, 15:46He probably has a gut feeling usually doesRen Hoëk wrote: ↑14 Feb 2024, 13:07You've now reduced your claim by 30 mins. So, A DO 50 miles from the MC will be 90 mins? A DO 10 mins from the MC, 90 mins? A DO attached to the DO...90 mins also? I think it's fairly clear what im getting at. You don't know what you are talking about.
Wave 2 is walk sort only, unless RM plan on having us go back to sequence it, though tbqf some batches some nights can se so quite on wave 2 that it's barely worth even bothering to walk sort them.ted_e_bear wrote: ↑14 Feb 2024, 12:48I wondered about that, the only thing I can think of is they run the sequencing for the closer do's last so the despatch time is earlier for the furthest away to give a similar arrival time, as I say I've no idea just guessing.
A lot of the time will be accounted for the later arrivals into the MC and the time to process that mail.![]()
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.

Isn't the fact we won't be starting or finishing at the same times we presently do what this thread is all about?

-We always had 1 day's mail.
-Jobs/Duties were a fair/reasonable size.
-You didn't have to take your tracked parcels during the Xmas period as they get Xmas parcel workers in.
Benefits:
-They'd no longer be arguments with managers about what to take.
-Lapsing would be long gone.
-You could do the job as slow or as fast as you wanted.
-It would be job and finish.
It would all just depend how pay would work....
Do they only essentially pay you until a set time - if you finish before that time you can go home early, if you finish after that time you obviously go home late.
Do they pay overtime if you go over.... the problem here is people will drag their rounds out to get extra pay.... slow work is rewarded with £.
Do they do clock-in clock-out and pay you for the hours you do - again, this isn't a fair way of doing things as people will drag out their rounds, or people will naturally be slower than others, but be rewarded for being slow.
I think it would have to be a set amount of £ per day no matter how busy it was. I actually like the idea. Getting rid of all the politics of agreeing with managers what to take would make the job so much less stressful.....
BUT in an ideal world the jobs would have to be made a fair and reasonable size in agreement with the Union and annual leave and sick days would need to be covered by Royal Mail. Imagine coming in to 3 day's mail and you have to complete it - that would suck.

Re: Later start times
Flat rate job and knock sounds very appealing. But commit to deliver would be abused by managers who would quickly increase the size of the duties. Also true that the slow posties who go over by hours are being rewarded with more £ than more efficient ones.
