On our sector we have unbalanced walks where some can complete, some are driving at 10mph to waste time, some have no chance of completing on a regular bassis. Management dont do anything as one said they can a least count on some walks being completed and box ticked, accepting the failed duties as inevitable. So some are on easy street whilst others suffer in plain sight. Great for morale
Similar here, most do complete however there's at least an hour's difference on a few duties where the folk on them hang around waiting to siso out thinking it looks like that's the time they finished working, yes it's s**t for morale.

Couldn’t give a flying bollocks what they choose to do as long as there are finish times and I don’t have to work one minute over it. Mail can sit in frames for a year for all I care, not our problem.
Get us a pay rise instead
I know your totally correct, but I just get stressed out and get in a panic at the mail just building up, I'm in a utter rush everyday, trays of mail and D2D on the floor, it seems all I have time to do is the damn tracked.
It's not totally correct at all. Contracts of employment and CWU agreements do not say this. Its great if you can enforce this but the reality is many workers can't.
Does the CWU/contracts state that idiots should be coming into work early hours each week for free? No, yet the majority are. Absolute madness.
Also the reality is, if people are struggling to finish on their time, that’s their own choice! Nothing can be done if you choose to come back on your time each day. If that means not delivering a single letter, then that’s what it is. Work to your time, stop coming in for free, don’t do a single minute OT. Best thing you will do.

One thing our managers dont seem to understand is that when we are prioritising certain items it takes away any efficiency that you would have if you took the whole walk out and stopped close to your finishing time, just bringing back what ever you have left.

But because your driving round for ten minutes to do a special delivery or going into a multi story tower block with a single first class letter it looks like nothing is getting done.

We are being told bring back tracked 48s and make sure first class is done aswel as tracked 24s, but then the next day we have to do tracked 24s, first class and yesterday's tracked 48s.

This takes time aswel going through your workload and picking out priority stuff and scanning it all back in when you get back.

That's been mentioned before but the extra 24 hours for a tracked 48 is already accounted for travelling through the system so when it arrives at the delivery office it's due for delivery that day not to be extended into a tracked 72, when they arrive at the do it's no less important than a T24

People shouldn't be working a minute over but having said that our line manager started putting people on performance monitoring because they were delivering all their parcels but hardly taking mail and then when it was covered on the day off or annual leave other people were taking much more on your round and still finishing on time. As long as people actually make a good attempt then there should never be an issue but when they are delivering 100 parcels but only taking a row of mail then potentially they can pull you in and monitor you. It all depends on the office though but I'm guessing once changes come in the company will probably start to get a lot stricter with things. This is why they are trying to push older postie's out of the door, the company doesn't want a 50 year old postie on legacy contracts when they can get someone half their age on £2 a less doing more work for less money. Its obvious where RM are going with this. Unfair yes but getting away with doing bare minimum and just "finishing on your time" won't be something people will get away with for much longer.

They will never be able to force you to do more than your contracted hours, so finishing on time will always remain. As you say, do what you can do in your time, don’t take the piss and you will be fine.
Workers are already working unconditioned hours. Not everyone gets to say no.

But because your driving round for ten minutes to do a special delivery
In towns why don't DOs send a van or two out to do all the specials?

They probably don’t have the spare vans or the staff.

That's going to the other extreme of inefficiency.

That sometimes happens in our office but it's because the new starts (who don't get a paid break) covering just work straight through and take their break 'at the end' on their commute home......

The problem is the RM ODM and what the Union Want couldn't be more further apart, it's not saving anywhere near what they want and it's not actually much better than what the postie's are doing now. These owners are stubborn, I think it's highly unlikely they will go for anything like what the union want.
6 into 8 sounds realistic and still a big sh1t show as it doesn't seem any better than the ODM.
6 into 8 IS the exact same as 3 into 4 :arrrghhh
In theory it is yes but there wouldn't be a swapping of duties AB Monday, Duties CD Tuesday and so on like the ODM.

Walsh will say it's 12.5%.

Thats what it is if the heavy light model comes in ( 1 walk gone in 8 )

Thats still half the losses of the ODM

6 in 8 is just the same as 3 in 4 when it comes to walk losses
