No, you don’t need to “pass” anything. As someone with grandfather rights (pre’97 licence holder) to drive vehicles up to 7.5 tonne, you just need to attend periodic CPC training to get the digicard. No pass or fail about it. Only people doing the full class C or C&E need to do the modules 1 to 4 (which you can indeed fail).

I see it daily with the 16-foot box (approx) Daf box vans that are in and out of my DO

If you think you can get 15 cages on a van then I'll leave it at that.

I think it referred to the capacity in cubic feet, iirc you told me a while ago you briefly bought and sold the ldv vans, I think they were classed as a 150 and the larger 3.5 ton twin rear wheeled version was a 400.

Yes, you are right. But I was waiting for our antagonist to enlighten us. Indeed, I was picturing in my mind’s eye an old Leyland Roadrunner complete with low window in the cab — fun things to drive but very bouncy when unladen. The Scanias of the 1980s are my favourite, though I have a soft spot for the old Ford/IvecoCargos and Mercs of the same era.
