No such thing as duty auctions in MCs, only realignments where duty hours get realigned to match arrival and dispatch times. Every MC has got a realignment coming up so arrival and dispatch times must be changing.Londonsburning wrote: ↑25 Apr 2025, 18:52Just use your seniority to jump onto a processing or collections duty at the closest MC next auction then, like the rest of us.. There's zero chance of anyone moving to MCs these days, the DDA duties are already spoken for and anyone who leaves is replaced with casuals/agency. You'll need to be able to drive anyway to work at a MC as they're generally all located on industrial estates outside of towns.

I was being facetious. There used to be auctions back in the day for duties across the entire locality. You probably wouldn't remember that though.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑25 Apr 2025, 19:32No such thing as duty auctions in MCs, only realignments where duty hours get realigned to match arrival and dispatch times. We all know it won't work because the very basics aren't right. Traffic speeds, call rates, attendance calls, delivery points, duty times, duties, contract variations, travel times and so on, all wrong. The CWU said everything had to be right before it started and then promptly said they had no idea how many duties there are across the operation.
Instead of taking on the regulator and telling it to get back in it's box, the CWU has colluded with the industry and regulator to squeeze more profit out of us. The CWU are the guilty party here. They could stop this all but are so integrated with the business that the certification officer should revoke its status as an independent trade union.
Get out of the CWU. Stop bank rolling their collusion.

A sensible solution would be to have a rota where nobody works more than 3 consecutive days.Woody Guthrie wrote: ↑25 Apr 2025, 18:12You can perhaps argue that a Mon-fri for non-drivers would make them accept the added fatigue but that's not the same as addressing fatigue.
You can't on the one hand accept that drivers are having to rotate every second day to manage fatigue and then on the other hand make a case that a non-driver can do five on the spin every single week.

10 miles at the old Pegasus/GeoRoute average walking speed of 3mph limits you to an outdoor span of 3:20. We had that once upon a time - the problem is that with the progressive loss of indoor work there isn't another four hours of non-outdoor work to fill an FT day. You then have to contemplate making the job majority PT, and it is well known just how much PT staff clamour for whatever extra hours they can get to make ends meet.
The machine stops.

This makes no sense to me....Mr Rush wrote: ↑25 Apr 2025, 23:0110 miles at the old Pegasus/GeoRoute average walking speed of 3mph limits you to an outdoor span of 3:20. Google maps is telling me that a town nearby mine is 10.1 miles away and it takes 3 hours 45 minutes to walk that distance. It bases your walking speed at 3.1mph.
We aren't constantly walking either - we are moving the van, getting our next bag or trolley prepared, talking to the odd customer, waiting for our van-share partner, delivering parcels, stopping at front doors to post letters through etc.....
So how the heck does a 10 mile walking distance limit you to an outdoor span of 3 hours 20 minutes. It should be an outdoor span of around 4 hours and 30 minutes.
I get the fact that if your office chooses to work a 4 day week that your delivery span will be 5 hours+ which is going to take you well past 10 miles walking distance. I suppose if you do get that extra day off a week then capping us at 12 miles per day wouldn't be too bad.
Isn't it likely that on the 2nd class mail days the prep will take longer so maybe we'll be getting out on delivery later but with a later finish time.

Our delivery office has no overtime covering indoor work at the moment, but does pay a casual to come in early and make up door 2doors

Yeah, we have about 12 regulars who do 2 hours docket on IPS and packet sorting most mornings, yet our start times have been pushed back to around 2 hours later over the last few years.yubin282 wrote: ↑26 Apr 2025, 09:22Yeah, the indoor work that’s always covered with OT ????Mr Rush wrote: ↑25 Apr 2025, 23:0110 miles at the old Pegasus/GeoRoute average walking speed of 3mph limits you to an outdoor span of 3:20. If anyone within the "decision making employees" at RM and CWU had any sort of integrity left, we wouldn't be in this situation. RM is nothing but a vehicle for income inequality for the very people who 'deliver the final mile.'
Delivery jobs are going to be obsolete within RM in the next 5 years, everything will be sold off for a quick profit to the detriment of Delivery T&C's and the CWU are enablers. The deception and lies from the CWU leadership is shocking and your charity, paying for their lifestyles is daylight robbery.
