Those in the upper echelons of the CWU should do a delivery at least 1 week of the year, I guarantee their stance on fatigue and outdoor delivery spans would change.

I do agree in this. I think withdrawn reps should go out on delivery for at least a couple of days every year.
Things change, work load/content changes over time.

Exactly they claim to represent those in delivery but have no current experience of the job any more.

Most likely non drivers will be given redundancy as they don't fit anymore and the walk covered by a (agency) driver.

They fit whilst there are still letters to deliver ...

Tony Bouch needs to tell us all how many steps / miles posties are walking on average throughout the week during these trials.

Personally I think we should be capped at 10 miles a day, so any days which involve walking any further need to be reduced.

I'd assume as the days are now longer for the people on these trials they are probably walking 11 to 13 miles on some days?
It seems the goal is to get deliveries out on the street for their full shift, I assume the pilot offices are paying lots of excess docket for early start sorting. Does anyone else remember when we used to have night shift sorting duties at the DOs? Those were the days!
Surely if people are doing OT then trials don't work.

It would be wrong on all levels if they end up having every weekend off and that would create a two tier system which is pretty much already is now with the new and old contracts.
I presume you are on a so called legacy contract much like myself. Why are you kicking off about non-drivers, 100% of them being on the same contract as yourself, when new starts are paid £80 PW less than us? That is the real two tier system here.
It's not that I'm kicking off, it's the fact I've been reading comments from a few non drivers hoping they get Monday to Friday rotas. One on here recently commented on this thread to say bung the B*stards £20 a week on a Saturday to stop them moaning. We all would love two days off together each week but we can't get it. Drivers already have to put up with so much crap with the trimble situation, it's not the non drivers fault but the drivers already get the short straw by basically being a driver.

We are a pilot office, not implemented yet, and non drivers aren't getting every Saturday off, so we've been told ...

They definitely care about representing their members from my experience but it is natural that they will become out of touch if they don't every now and then get back on the tools.
Since allot of them have been on delivery we have had increased in very heavy oversized, collections and things like age verification packets.
Jobs changed and it would be beneficial for them to see that hands on.

The real test of the CWU's partnership model of delivery is going to be when the larger workplaces start it. We all know it won't work because the very basics aren't right. Traffic speeds, call rates, attendance calls, delivery points, duty times, duties, contract variations, travel times and so on, all wrong. The CWU said everything had to be right before it started and then promptly said they had no idea how many duties there are across the operation.

Instead of taking on the regulator and telling it to get back in it's box, the CWU has colluded with the industry and regulator to squeeze more profit out of us. The CWU are the guilty party here. They could stop this all but are so integrated with the business that the certification officer should revoke its status as an independent trade union.

Get out of the CWU. Stop bank rolling their collusion.
Even if the cwu haven't got teeth anymore they are still helpful to alot of staff with individual problems don't you think, they've helped a lot of colleagues at my depot even stopped bullying.

You can perhaps argue that a Mon-fri for non-drivers would make them accept the added fatigue but that's not the same as addressing fatigue.

You can't on the one hand accept that drivers are having to rotate every second day to manage fatigue and then on the other hand make a case that a non-driver can do five on the spin every single week.

That's exactly where it's headed though, people have said it from the off. There really aren't any other options on the table if/when the new way of working is rolled out.

I don't think it can end that way simply because it will undermine any argument drivers have for managing fatigue and before you know it managers will be forcing drivers into doing five on the spin if it's "operationally necessary".

If the non-drivers can do it......

We're in danger of making fools of ourselves with regards to fatigue over the desperation some members have for a Mon-fri and Martin's apparent desperation to see these trials "work".

Either the core delivery job is potentially too demanding to do all week or it isn't, it can't be both just to make the football on a Saturday.
