Re: NOTICE FOR LOCAL DELIVERY REPS : Blanket overtime ban
I don't see how coming in 90 minutes early helps him.
There wouldn't be enough work to justify starting that early.
You would simply be standing around doing nothing for .... probably about 90 minutes.

The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

That's my scan out time for a Saturday.2chorizon wrote: ↑24 Jan 2025, 22:04Why are people "getting back to the office for 14:19"? This is the problem.Dingo99 wrote: ↑24 Jan 2025, 20:31Yeah we told manager that we shouldn't be lapsing as they are not resourcing to workload and we were told tough, basically, got lapsing tomorrow, ain't no way I can get 30 mins minimum of lapsing, my own duty completed on top, and still get back to the office for 14:19!Clappedoutpostie wrote: ↑24 Jan 2025, 18:45Resourcing to budget not resourcing to workload is apparently what they are calling it and it’s here until April.

Re: NOTICE FOR LOCAL DELIVERY REPS : Blanket overtime ban
There is a world of difference between mail centres and deliveries and I don't care about the posties who start early and get out earlier to complete their own deliveries as that is up to them. The CWU Area rep told us all years ago that it would inevitably lead to more lapsing and bigger deliveries and that's what we have got now but some of them will never see the woods for the trees.
But I do think that having a more visible Union presence with reps active on the shop floor helping and supporting posties as regards the daily discussions that they often have with managers would be a very positive step in the right direction. We might be in the Union but sometimes we all need a bit of back up from time to time and not reps behaving and acting like managers.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

There's a CWU poster up in our canteen. 'Do the job properly':
I thought the last two were a bit antiquated so I finally examined it up close. Printed in 2007
- Start on time
- Take your meal relief
- Don't use private cars
- Weigh your bags
The machine stops.

In DOs you aren't rapidly being replaced with agency/casuals. A few shifts in MCs are already just about all agency/casuals. Think we'll all be replaced within 5 years. Don't think it won't happen in DOs afterwards, I think it will do.postslippete wrote: ↑25 Jan 2025, 18:40

The last time the list was put up on our union board showing every last union position in our area across all sties and who held each position, less than 1/4 of DOs had a rep and I wouldn't be surprised if that's dropped a lot since the last dispute

Using the specified equipment should also be added. If you are meant to be using a trolley and you don't, if you get injured it'll be a straight blameworthySean06 wrote: ↑25 Jan 2025, 21:51Well remove the bottom two an tell the rest to do the top two simple really..or tell the rep to do it.

We haven't had any agency or casuals for quite some time. During the industrial dispute RM used dozens of agency workers but the new laws which came out last year now prevent them from doing this. However, there are loads of new faces on these lesser contracts and I have no doubt that they are RM's future because they are contracted to work from 7am till 7pm and have to work Sundays. Every other week I see someone new which might partly explain why there is an overtime ban in our office. Maybe they can get 2 for the price of 1! lol
While the two tier contracts was one of the Union's red lines during the dispute unfortunately it is still happening and there isn't really a lot that they can do about it now. Many of them are not on 40 hour contracts either but are part-time.
I agree and as we are often taking 2 days worth of mail the trolley is a godsend. There are many posties that still won't use them but old habits die hard.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑25 Jan 2025, 22:23

Definitely don’t start early. If there’s too much work bring it back, if you are in early and get done early there’s a good chance you’ll get sent back out especially with the ongoing ban.

Re: NOTICE FOR LOCAL DELIVERY REPS : Blanket overtime ban
What you say is true but I have been in many a meeting where this has been relayed to members.postslippete wrote: ↑25 Jan 2025, 07:14
Sad but true. I've never known a company where so many people are willingly giving this business hours of work for FREE. It's not as if they can finish earlier because if they get back early managers are giving them more work to do or making sure that they clock out on time. It doesn't make any sense. Our Union should be holding local meetings (can't remember the last one) telling people not to come in early, not to work through their breaks and certainly not rush round trying to complete deliveries but instead take their time, use the trolleys provided and educating them on the correct overrunning procedures that are already in place.
Without doing this there is no credible Union but instead are leaving posties high and dry in dealing with everything themselves. Everyone knows that most of the duties in our office are f***ed, so why bother trying to make an unachievable workload look achievable by working unpaid hours?? All it is doing is making it more difficult for themselves and for management who, believe it or, are pressured in trying to save even more hours and still get these duties completed in future.
Allot of the time it falls on death ears.
A combination of area and unit reps have banged this drum for years in my office/area.
For whatever reason some people will never change.
Many do but some won't.
I think it's a combination of people wanting to get the work done and having a rigid routine they can't waver from.
It's stresses some people changing the way they work.
You can lead a horse to water, you can't make them drink.
You need the majority of members to be doing the job properly.
You will never get everyone.

But that's not the case across the board.
Why don't you run for unit rep next time.
Might be what your office needs.

It got to the point where a deal had to be done to end the dispute and not lead to thousands of job losses.
There will be discussions at the top table and a flight path to migrate the contracts at some point.
The union haven't just shelved this issue.

Flight paths?? Shelving the issue?? I think CWU top branch are just 'winging' it hoping something sticks
How do I get to be a Union rep then? I am a paragon of virtue with altruistic tendencies unlike other reps that we have had in the past who were more interested in getting full time paid release and going on the piss on expenses as often as possible. There never seems to be any vacancies on the CWU website or anything noteworthy on the Union's noticeboard at work. Methinks our Union rep is keeping it all to himself and I can't blame him either as he is on a cushy little number working with CON and DOM in the managers office.

It was displayed in every office.
Someone could put you forward next time they come up.
