…and our union rep has told us that on that terrain we cannot carry bags heavier than 5kg
The instruction from your union rep is ridiculous. Presumably there was no 5 kg bag weight limit over this mountainous terrain you’re expected to traverse prior to Delivery 2.0.
I’m not really sure what you mean???

Previously the loops were smaller so we weren’t carrying 3 bundles of mail plus parcels in our bags also we dropped off any heavy parcels by van

Our rep has said 11kg limit for flat terrain and 16kg per bag on a trolly and 5kg limit on hazardous/steep terrain
I don’t disagree with what you say about this new way of working being a a shambles and I’m not trying to discredit what you’re saying based on your firsthand experience of Del 2.0 (something I don’t have); I am merely saying this 5 kg limit imposed by your union rep is ridiculous. Even prior to Del 2.0 your bag would have weighed more than 5 kg — even if you had only one bundle of mail, one Asos bag and a single contact lenses box it would weigh more than 5 kg. That is why I say it’s ridiculous.
So let me get this in writing here. You think that Jen1s office rep is being ridiculous for imposing the agreed weight limit for the terrain they are delivering to? Because what, their bags aren't heavy enough in your mind for a 40 minute slog? Are you serious
It already is in writing, chum!

They don’t class the bundle you’re carrying as weight in your bag (probably as it’s not in your bag)

And you’ll be surprised how many small packets you can fit in before you reach 5kg

But I’ll be sure to get our union rep to confer with you first in the future before following “ridiculous” guidelines about acceptable bag weight for hazardous terrain :chuckle
A postie’s bag containing a small bundle of mail, one Asos bag and one contact lenses box weighs more than 5kg. Try it for yourself on the scales tomorrow.
You are clearly management material smooth as you haven’t listened to a thing I’ve said :chuckle

They don’t class the bundle as weight in your bag as it’s not in your bag

We’ve made the loops smaller as part of the risk assessment so there’s only one bundle to carry

Have I simplified that enough for you to comprehend now or would you feel more at home if I used RM management speak which usually consists of caveman like grunts interspersed with proactive words

Fortunately you aren't in charge of H&S.
The 5kg limit probably was always in place, as it was for Victorian tenements when Royal Mail carried out a H&S assessment back in 1999/2000.

For a while they even introduced smaller pouches.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Do you still sign for a duty under this new scheme?
Yes we still have the same duties except some duties don’t exist anymore so some duty holders have been displaced and are currently back as reserves

There is going to be a re pick soon, going on seniority, so the most senior postie will get first choice of which duty they want and they’ll work down the list

We’ve lost 7 posties since they brought in this shambles and 5 of them were more senior to me so at least I’ve climbed up the ladder a bit

Trouble is because so many posties have left (and some have opted to do parcel duties instead) some of the duties don’t have a regular postie on it so nobody has rewritten those duties
As Chandler would say, ‘Could it be, anymore shambolic?’. Apart from the idea where they would do away with frames altogether, 2.0 has to be the most inefficient waste of time and money after DPR routes.
It’s all very sad

You’d of thought as it’s supposed to be a trial that they’d listen to the people actually doing the job and make adjustments accordingly

It’s obvious that DPR routes were a dumb idea to anybody in delivery

I mean how did they ever think that taking large parcels off us but then adding twice as many door knocks over a larger area from the additional small parcels that come with the added loops would save us time so we could complete bigger rounds???

But no it seems all failures are due to every postie in the entire office being lazy, yep that’s much more plausible

I’ll take that as a back-handed compliment (though I have no management aspirations).

If you read my post again, I am referring to the weight of a single bundle in your bag. As you know, when management do bag weight checks before you go out on delivery there is always a bundle of mail in the bag. Your union rep’s 5 kg limit will surely be enforced in the same way, no? And what happens if you have a 5kg SD to deliver?

 You’re boring me now but basically the 5kg thing works for us and we feel much safer (it’s certainly better than the 3 bundles and packets we were expected to carry)

I’ll have to check if we’re supposed to be counting the bundle in with the bag because we haven’t but to be fair I don’t think we’ll exceed the 5kg on those loops as they are now

Also like I’ve said we drop the heavy parcels off from the van so we’re not lugging them up and down every step

I think the risk is reduced enough if you’re carrying a 5kg parcel just up and down one stepped driveway rather than carrying up and down 50 or so stepped driveways

I think you could probably use common sense for that

Am I boring you because I have demonstrated amply just how ridiculous your union rep’s meddling is? Doubtless management at your gaff are running the same line. I would also suggest the application of common sense could be much more wide ranging than you think. Over and out!

Sorry smooth that was rude of me to say you were boring me I apologise

Just that you seem to be saying the same thing over and over rather than just admitting that you were wrong

I mean I can fit an entire weeks holiday clothes, shoes and essentials in a 10kg bag when flying jet 2 so I think 5kg is probably more than you realise

Hope that concludes our discussion

Then there are the D2Ds! They double the weight of your bundles and even if you are carrying one bundle on your arm and two bundles in your bag, that’s still three bundles that you are carrying at double weight.

We are no longer going to using delivery 2.0 for our revision, but they are still going to double slot every frame "to make more space" even though we are losing the big parcels. 5 hour delivery spans, 6 loops per walk, to be done by trolleys.

Does that really mean that those loops are double what they had previously been? So 40mins ish instead of 20mins?

That was originally the plan, but ours goes live next month, no delivery 2.0.
