I always said this was a blunt tool and would not resolve the issue of balancing seasonal variations in workload.

A far more elegant solution would be to allow us to bank hours when we needed to and use them when we wanted to but that would require a level of trust and flexibility that this business is clearly incapable of.

The reason we will never agree to this far more acceptable solution for both parties lies squarely at the feet of local management.

Full timers start 24 minutes a day, part timers 10 minutes but which do we fall into? And then there’s the fact it’s apparently limited to 30 minutes a week for PT so if we do fall into PT then do we just do 7.5 minutes a day?!

HR can’t help and have directed us to the manager. Manager off sick. Union rep off sick. Area rep away on holiday.

Anything under 35hrs is part-time and therefore 10 mins.

Royal Mail are contradicting themselves in the correspondence they sent out. You are considered part time so it should be 10 minutes, however in the faq sent out to their managers it says people who work full time hours on the days they are in should also do 24 minutes. The whole thing is a mess.

Edit just seen Woodys post, they must have corrected the contradiction.

For part timers who do a full time shift it is 24 minutes. The faq’s sheet has since been updated and I think it’s question number 42 which answers this issue.
