The end of the threat of mandatory Sundays for existing staff is such a massive open goal, I’d be amazed as the union don’t get that as part of the new ‘deal of the century’ that is no doubt incoming. You don’t need a full office to cope with packet traffic on a sunday.
There never was a legitimate threat of mandatory Sundays.
It would have tied the business up in a legal nightmare.
If the CWU are now negotiating with the board, he is irrelevant, surely?

Now he isn't at the negotiations this is being hailed as some sort of victory?
Because he’s been booted out of the talks. At the start he was choosing not to attend as some sort of misguided snub to the union & workforce.

Misguided snub? It's extremely rare and very unusual for a CEO to be involved in pay negotiations.
Not the impression that Thompson gave. He was always waxing lyrical about how HE wanted to get round the table & negotiate. He was also partial to filming himself outside wherever the meetings were taking place (when he did show up) to spout his drivel.
The CWU had stated throughout the dispute that his attendance at the negotiations has been,at best,hit & miss.
I doubt they’d do this if he wasn’t expected to attend?

If,as you say CEO’s never negotiate with trade unions over industrial matters,why didn’t he say that instead of acting like a twerp?

At our place they’ve been offered Sunday only contracts on less money than the regular weekday hourly rates of RM staff… Guess they will get their Sunday deliveries and get them covered on the cheap.

A couple of the good ones at ours have also been offered contracts, the crap new contracts. £11.59 an hour which includes Sundays at that rate as well. They have declined.
Next week i become a reserve after 26 years,its too late for me now ive been shafted by both Royal Mail and the CWU,why is it the little guy always has to lose.
