Yeah he’s been caught out. He’s not a nice guy. ST should go.
I don’t see it as taking sides as such as the only side I’m taking is my own.
I’m not a member of the CWU and all I’m going to do is look after my own interests.
If the job no longer becomes suitable for me I will look for one that is.
This isn't a instance in which you can say your not taking side's. Choosing to strike or not to strike is a binary decision (no middle ground) & not striking is in Rm's interests.

I'm leaving in less than a year so not gonna affect me I the long run. Wouldn't be ok with my colleagues sacrificing salary while I cash in though.

So you recognize Thompson & the board are no good. Are you not striking just to cash in then?
I don’t remember a decent board and CEO in all my time.
I’m in it for myself. Selfish, maybe, but you know in my workplace we have someone who’s been arrested for a racist attack, a guy who beat up his first wife, another who was involved in a drink drive incident and plenty who take illegal substances. I don’t consider these guys my colleagues or comrades or people who I am fighting in solidarity with.
Like I keep saying, I applied for the job because it was right for me. Over the years the job has changed but it’s still ideal for me. Even with the new changes it will probably still be the most available job out there for me.

You CWU members have voted to strike. I don’t get a say in that but The CWU don’t pay my bills. I do.

The people who now ignore me, well I ignore them as well. It’s no problem to me.

I could go on in detail why I’m so detached from the CWU and the militant posties but i doubt anyone wants to listen. So each to their own.

Knows what he is? Does he care? Does he feel shame? I doubt it. I certainly don’t. Don’t presume this ‘invisible’ man is feeling down. He probably doesn’t give a damn.
Not bothered if you cross the picket line or not. Just curious, aren't you bothered about the lies & greed Thompson & the board have been been exposed with lately?

He literally said they wasn't prioritising packet's over letter's. If you work as a postman, you know that's a blatant lie.

They also got exposed on criteria used for how they receive bonuses. Changed the criteria from company performance (standard across most companies) to value shareholders receive & he squirmed while answering that question which highlights he knew he was wrong.

There's other questions he squirmed over aswell but if you can take side's with them over that then nothing much to say :hmmmm

After all that, you are not a union member?!

So you are basically going into work on strike days because otherwise you will be sacked for not turning up.

That’s not the same as a union member crossing the picket line and going into work.
Why would he be sacked for striking he has as much right to strike as a union member has.
That wasn’t the point Aiden. Point is, if he isn’t a union member he’s not obligated to strike in the same way that a member is.

He probably will, and if more start to adopt the same attitude then we'll all be back to the industrial conditions existing prior to the formation of the unions centuries ago.
The "I'm doing what's right for me" attitude can only work for so many out of the workforce, and after that we'll have lost the cohesive organisation necessary for all workers' rights.
Still, just as long as individuals can do "what's right for them" eh?

If I always did what was right for me and the CWU only listened to my view then we would never have sold out to shareholders a decade ago.
I was so against that but most of the posties in my office got sold out by the free shares.
That was the beginning of the end.

There is a chap in my office who went for that VR as he is planning to retire in the next 12 months but he didn’t get it so he’s said he’s going to go off sick with his bad hips and wait until he gets a pay out. The response of other members? Just laughter and comments that he deserves it for 30 years service. But he’s doing what’s right for him. I don’t agree with his choice but Hey ho.

I think the obvious question is why come on a forum that's mostly populated by CWU members and brag about crossing a picket line?

Is it an attention seeking thing?
An attempt to be controversial?
Or as members have a right to be cautious of because I think there are a few on here, an attempt to illicit a particular reaction that suits the present business narrative? Who knows but it is strange behaviour when you break it down.

You see it on Facebook a lot and that's where members have lost their jobs because obviously your identity is visible but even on here the anonymity isn't total, people give away clues to their identity all the time. If you feel like you're being baited, don't bite is the answer, if it is attention seeking they'll soon get bored when they don't get any.

Iv been on here for years. If it was for CWU members only I wouldn’t have signed up.
I try to be polite and adult with my responses and give my opinions on things. When I got loads of insults I didn’t make one complaint.
If all you want is a forum where everyone has the same opinion as you you should try shouting your views in a bucket.

Surely the racist, druggies & wife beater represent a small fraction of your office. But I wasn't saying you should strike for your colleagues anyway. It should be done on what you recognize & admitted yourself, that the ceo & board are in the wrong.

I'm not even trying to convince you either. Just wanted to know your reasoning. I suspect your either trolling or as you said yourself, selfish :cuppa

Selfish. Way I look at it is I am paid by Royal Mail to work for them. And I will work for them until the job becomes too unreasonable.
I think the CEO and board in particular are wrong. I think a middle ground could have been found long ago.
But so many people in my office see RM as this big bad enemy who they resent working for and see the CWU as this Jesus like saviour and it makes them miserable. And angry.
I’m happy just plodding on. My mental health or bank balance isn’t taking a hit.

If you admitted yourself that RM are in the wrong then what's wrong with your office viewing them as the enemy. You make no sense :d'oh!

You used the selfish word on yourself, I'm just agreeing with you.

Because if you come to work with the mentality that you are working for an enemy, like a slave, it makes you miserable and can turn the workplace toxic.

Personally I don’t think mental health is worth risking

And yeah, I said selfish. I’m selfish because I’m putting myself first but for the last 20 years or so working here iv worked and used to work overtime for my family. Not me. My kids have mostly grown up now but they still come first, along with my wife. Somewhere on my list you guys appear. But everyone above you takes priority.
So when I said I was selfish it was true, from a certain point of view.

Finally, if people get sacked for calling someone names then, and I will be frank, you only have yourself to blame. We have warnings about name-calling on here including specific terms, and they are there for a reason. If you break the rules, you should be by now very aware of the possible consequences should a manager decide to take action.
Disagree with name calling aswell, but how can there be consequences from name calling on here when we are all anonymous? Maybe you was referring to Fb or twitter.
What you post, how you post, and even idiosyncrasies in spelling and grammar all form a picture. From that picture, it's relatively easy to identify someone. Even people who aren't being controversial will be easy to identify if a manager really wants to find them on here.

In the forces, we called it PERSEC and OPSEC. Personal Security and Operational Security. Basically don't form patterns, change your approach, change names, leave false information, and don't be specific.

With the right training, skills and application, it's easy to get information that is blocked from most websites.

My advice is careful what you post and act like there are managers reading every post because sometimes they are.

So you're saying they should come in as though nothing is happening, keep a positive attitude? Don't forget compulsory redundancies were being threatened not so long ago but your saying forget about that, it's all good.

Your exaggerating aswell. I haven't been to your office but we all know people react differently. Some are more vocal & other's keep their frustrations inside. So the picture your painting is bs.

Is the real reason because you don't get along with the staff in your office & you don't want to side with something they are against? Cause you sound bitter about them.
