I can't see how some offices can start in April but others with later start times during the summer, what are those starting later in the summer going to do after April, just stand around waiting an hour or so for the mail to arrive?

In our DO we delivery any outstanding Tracked in OT but as somebody else posted earlier nobody will want to do that in the dark in the winter, and we can't delivery the previous days Tracked the following morning in OT. I wonder how many staff will now leave because they don't want to work up to 90 mins later and those that already do that will leave as there's no afternoon OT?? It's also looking like afternoon SA/Collections will go as they are incorporated into hybrid duties, so that's another financial loss for some.

Someone else posted that overtime would be done in the morning....for mail.... if so, I guess that would mean posties would come in early and take out what they didn't complete the day before and then come back to the office in time to start their contracted hours at 9.30am or whatever....

The thing with current overtime is, I think a lot of people do it to avoid drama with management, or because they have OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder), so they stay out to clear the job. If Royal Mail don't want people staying out on overtime until 5pm / 6pm or if posties don't want to be out that late themselves....then surely this will shoot Royal Mail in the foot?.... they won't clear as much mail.... maybe they don't care, maybe they don't want to be paying overtime anymore. Why would they bother paying overtime for mail delivery when they are failing the USO anyway.

I have been considering leaving Royal Mail recently as I can't stand management anymore and my legs are aching every evening, so these later start and finish times could put the final nail in the coffin for me....

The only positive that I can see from the later starts is....I am typically knackered by 8 / 9pm and I'm usually asleep by 9.30pm and I hate this. I'd like to stay up until midnight, but it's impossible. The later finishes means I will be knackered later in the day, so will be able to stay up later.

Why does Royal Mail continue to peddle the nonsense that C02 emissions and reducing flights is why the network needs to be pushed back? Are Amazon Air planning to eliminate their internal flights in the UK so that a two day delivery won't be possible? I noticed when I was going to work this morning that DHL were already out on the streets delivering parcels, yet our network is being pushed even further back. We already have LAT drivers that deliver parcels in the evenings, so what are their start and finish times going to be?

The real reason why our start and finish times are being pushed back is because the company wants to utilise these parcel super-hubs to process our parcels to reduce our indoor time. That is ultimately why they want us to start later because we are expected to walk in and most of the parcels will be pre-sorted. It is not to our benefit nor our customers because we will be delivering later and we will be expected to have a longer outdoor span to compensate. That is why the Union initially pushed for a shorter working week.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

I have completely given up. They can do as they like. They have killed the workforce. I think it’s great starting later :nana. Learn to not give a damn and it won’t bother you :nana

Longer outdoor span..... if so, that will probably be the end of me. Averaging 10 miles a day currently and I am dead.....soon to be averaging 12 miles?

Get the 3 day letter delivery in place and offer 3 day contracts - I don't mind walking 12 miles a day if I can work just 3 days a week!, but I am going to be dead if I have to walk 12 miles a day, 5 days a week.

There is absolutely no logical argument that Royal Mail have for reducing flights and C02 emissions as to why mail should arrive in delivery offices later because they have been consistently failing their USO targets since 2019. They have also been pushing, along with OfCon, for the reduction of mail delivery days anyway.

Why bother paying overtime for mail delivery when the company are failing the USO anyway is a good point and the dilemma every manager has to face. They know that the company have made duties bigger giving everybody more work to do but not everyone can manage to do the work in the hours and yet they are faced with trying to reduce costs, staffing being the main one. Its not just the long serving staff that have had enough of the daily grind but many of the newer ones who are being moved from pillar to post expecting to clear multiple days worth of mail and non-standards in an effort to keep their new boss happy. It's not a good recipe for a positive, healthy working environment.

We will be kept in the dark until the last minute and then when the times are changed it will be a shitshow.
It will be utterly confusing, backed by a 9 page LTB by the union.

If it’s a Monday and your surname begins A-D then you start 17 minutes later unless you are park and looping, if your colleagues first name begins with an E, L or U you both start 28 minutes later however that’s if it’s April, August or October. If it’s July, and the number of letters in your middle name add up to a prime number, it’s just 13 minutes later you start but if it’s your birthday month you start a full 24 hours later. If your socks are black or brown you add on another 3 minutes for each sock. And that’s just Monday.

Royal Mail will then change it depending on if it’s on peak, off peak, on off peak, on on peak, off off peak, off on peak or simply peak.
Loving this, sums up these tools who run this shitshow and the union leaders of failed postmen who haven't got a gcse betwwen them.

I agree and something has got to give. If long serving experienced staff are struggling with the current workloads, what chance do senior management think that newer staff have on lesser contracts?

If the company says it has a genuine commitment to staff's health and wellbeing then you shouldn't really need to wait for a 3 day letter delivery to take place. They should support you so that you only work 3 days a week!! There is little point in the company rightsizing the workforce so that it is constantly understaffed putting more pressure on the existing staff that its a bit like a survival of the fittest! lol. That is no good for anyone.

Overtime will get done before shift the next day rather than after shift meaning deliveries are pushed back further. It’s what the customers want.
A couple of yesterdays bags on overtime before u start :left:

At our office and I am sure most offices, they prefer people who stay out on overtime to complete....

I won't mind staying out on overtime to complete if I do a 3 day week. Maybe a lot of other posties will be happy with the same....

7.5 hours a day, up to 30 minutes overtime a day, 3 days a week.... 24 hour week over 3 days - suits me fine.

Please go to a 3 day mail service and offer this to us! or at least offer more flexible working!...

Conspiracy theory: Lots of staff on the old contracts leave the business. When enough have gone, RM revert back to sensible start/finish times and manageable deliveries to attract new staff but on the new contracts (no paid breaks, Sunday working etc).
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.
