Difference is this time there is a window of opportunity for them to exploit the cost of lockdown I mean cost of living crisis to try and break the union we have.

on another note, (absense levels are 3 times the national average)thats only because we are one of the most physical ,different, unusual, works where our workforce put themselves through an endurance test daily that maybe the army or the police would applaud, miles daily in every weather and conditions up and down maybe 50+ tenements daily , to deliver the mail, wake up mr thomson you know our conditions , you should be proud of your workforce not condeming them. smell the coffee , no wonder our people are 3 times above the annual absence average. AND WELL YOU KNOW THIS. get back to the negotiating table , sort a deal , unless what people say , that there is hidden agendas along the road.

Aye just been reading that bit....its tit for tat tactics stopping the union from collecting the members subs direct through the payroll system. If it had of been a shorter "notice of termination" to do so you can bet your boots they would've implemented that at the shortest possible notification so they could f**k up the unions finances. We need to respond to these tactics accordingly. I wonder how will the union collect our subs after this period has elapsed?

The union should withdraw all cooperation . Let the manager sort out who does what and who knows which duty when the duty holder is absent. I know in our office things would go wrong very quickly.
Slider tool. Lol.

With regards to the sick absence levels we also have an average employee age of around mid 40s which for a manual job is exceptionally high.
The UK average is 41 but considering the bulk of jobs in the UK are office based, retail, public or service sector the fact that we are considerably above the average must play a part in genuine sick absence levels.
This is not a job where you can just turn up at 50% capacity, avoid the boss and "phone it in" like many other jobs out there.

Depends.
Best case scenario, the union send out a direct debit mandate to every member, everyone fills it in and it's no major loss to the union but a loss to the business because the union pays Royal Mail for check off.
Worst case scenario the union loses 40% of members overnight because they can't be arsed/don't want to fill in the DD mandate.
It's one of those squeeky bum moments...

Well said Woody, if 28% of members can't even put an "X" in a box, and post back using supplied pre paid envelope, getting very complex and detailed information like a bank sort code and account number.....good luck!!Woody Guthrie wrote: ↑25 Sep 2022, 11:13Depends.

I wouldn't even waste time negotiating with RM over this, get the DD mandates out tomorrow and let's get this monkey off our backs right now.
They're obviously using it as a bargaining chip, let's take it off the table ourselves.

Totally agree. Its quite insulting and disingenuous that he comments on our “3 times national average” sick levels without mentioning that there are very clear and obvious reasons to explain a lot of this.

This seems like they have just effectively tried to de recognise the Union. This on its own would be bad enough but combined with the government about to introduce more anti union laws, I think we really need more than what the CWU can do on its own. The company is clearly emboldened by this ultra right wing government, and have probably already had secret talks with RM. We need a general election now, and the union needs to tell the TUC they need to organise a general strike to demand one on the grounds that this government has no mandate for what they are now doing.

Agreed.
Just don't engage with management at any level.
Reps in particular.
Do your job, as directed, go home.
We have more clout than they give us credit for.

Totally agree with you , probably the reason Royal Mail are looking to work people out of their jobs with nci and performanceWoody Guthrie wrote: ↑25 Sep 2022, 11:07With regards to the sick absence levels we also have an average employee age of around mid 40s which for a manual job is exceptionally high.

This is the biggest attack on our terms and conditions in the last 50 years we cannot nor will not lie down while being shafted by some rich prat so he and his ilk can enrich themselves at our expense!
