I do think the USO for letters needs to change.Lets be clear, the public in general would not care less if they got letters every other day.

The USO exists in name only.
There is very little scrutiny of the USO from the regulator.
The units are under no pressure to clear daily, and they take full advantage of it. Standards have dropped dramatically since Covid, and it was rinsed to the max in masking a lot of managerial ineptitude.

The global economic crisis and upcoming recession is their next crutch.

The business has been neglected and run into the ground over the last few years and the chickens are now coming home to roost.

There's no way anything will be the same again at Royal Mail.

Parcels are the money maker but despite all the crap fed to us LETTERS take longer to deliver.so until they sort themselves out with a reasonable way of doing the job were a letter company first parcels 2nd.A huge amount of people can't drive what happens to them..

Fire and rehire would have been unthinkable for a business of this stature a year ago, now we've reached a position where nobody is safe.

Time served, senioriity and loyalty used to be a huge positive to Royal Mail, now it's a millstone around their necks. They now want to get rid to pave the way for their cheaper options.

Im with you offer evr and there will be an avalanche of people,or even buy down,i doubt this will happen ,one they couldn't replace everyone with the new poor wage ,terms and conditions and 2 unemployment is at an all time low,we were supposed to have 20 agency staff come in only 9 turned up and by the end of the week we only had 5 left,says it all really.

Keep the current way of working but each van share partnership would cover 4 deliveries instead of 2 and alternate. Duty A and B delivered Monday, Wednesday, Friday. Duty C and D delivered Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday. Single duty holders would cover 2 duties using the same principle. EVR offered on current terms to make any needed reductions in headcount. Savings used to maintain current terms and conditions and offer premium payment for voluntary Sunday working.

Nice idea in theory regarding the A and B, plus C and D, but we all saw in reality what happened when duties were supposed to be rotated during the height of covid absences. 6 days a week service for some duties, once or twice a fortnight for others.
All too easy to fail a duty an extra day if it's already been sitting for a few.

Well they still deliver letters to up to 30 million addresses daily, i dont give a monkeys what they say about the decline, you cant tell me thats not a MASSIVE amount of money coming in. They reckon they are STILL delivering 8 BILLION letters a year. Why dont they charge a pound a letter no matter who it is?
