"i think you misunderstand the "hits" taken, every single working class person no matter what industry is will be hit, we're all suffering the price war, this is a UK hit not rm,
the CWU's objective is to obtain the best deal they can muster up on our behalf yes?
if we were allowed legally to do our minimum as per contract, no more no less then not a single person loses any contacted hours income :arrrghhh
now if some actually rely on unplanned random income, then that's a different argument that bares no relevance to any current dispute.

all i'm saying is that we should be able to do our bare minimum at all times which will hit RM harder than us all losing money, but this requires a ballot to which uncle terry won't do because he knows it will be a very close call, folk at ours ft & pt still doing 70/80 hrs so absolutely zero effect when those are losing 100s on strike days
how hard is it to understand that a legal balloted overtime will lose it's members ABSOLUTLEY ZERO basic PAY apart from those that are living beyond their means reliant on overtime even before the dispute...all our bills go up the same regardless"

What about part timers who rely on over time?

Would they be banned from overtime too?

Some people need to give their heads a serious wobble !

i was told by a manager that the 3 days of strikes we had was a waste of time and us posties are the only ones whos lost money as the company has now recovered from them days :evil/mad , and i know we have 2 more strikes days planned but if the cwu has to give 2 weeks notice for any strike days dont you think they should be given notice to more planned strike days now before these expire ? and keep the pressure on the company and keep us rolling forward .

The strike days we have had may not have caused a huge backlog but they are costing the business a fortune and losing customers.

It is a completely unsustainable position for the business to be in and the board knows this.

Now stop bickering about coulda, woulda and shoulda...

We don't need a backlog of mail but the people who send stuff to change who they do business with most of these business are parcel related which we make money on. And will see us as unreliable it is not us but greed from above and an agender for change of OWNERSHIP!
Look out turkeys, Christmas is coming....
And what the hell are you doing about it in your ivory tower you can talk to us all in the union you know we will not bite your hand off. Well not for the piss poor deal you presented in your last offer in any case!

It’s what some on here don’t get. Royal Mail are not bothered about a backlog. They are bothered about losing customers, which is what the strikes will achieve. I read somewhere this morning that Boots are using deliveroo, so that might be an example of RM losing business.

What we as a union want is not unreasonable we want fair pay for inflationary pressures and a commitment to abide by passed agreements that we democratically agreed and signed off by Royal Mail. Now they plead poverty yet pay vast sums for directors and chairman and CEO's the £140,000 on which one person who engorges himself on telling you that you are unreasonable. If I told you all Royal Mail jacked the price up 8% on average and 10% first class and we were IMPOSED 2% of the imposition by a person who pays himself on what he thinks he is worth!

The business as it is could keep going for years but it will lose customers and in time will fail this is not about winning a war but a battle we need to pick our chances and our battles. Going all out now is just wrong we can and already have inflicted damage to the business it is not though I want to do it, As a company we could grow but greed has infested the boardroom and the minds of the CEO and Chairman and Directors!

Agree, can't believe he's got away with keeping his job after stating that the revisions last year (which had to be forced through by October IIRC
because he'd promised the shareholders/city) were done on time and were a success. We all knew that they were an absolute
disaster and were never going to work and him and his cronies have got bonuses off the back of it and our efforts to keep
the whole shebang creaking along. And if he and the board are such successful business guru's why didn't they see the
drop off in parcels ie covid test kits coming? It was always going to happen, the gravy train was going to stop and they didn't see it.

On the contrary - it was entirely deliberate. Millions of profits given in dividends, handsome bonuses for chief executives, new members on big salaries i.e. Simon's mates joining the Royal Mail board.

Now the business is suddenly losing £1 million a day and all of a sudden the business needs to modernise and quickly
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

As someone said we are a parcel firm that delivers letters who else does that so we are hindered with the infrastructure of our legacy product or could we utilize the infrastructure we have and grow the products which others cannot do. If this is the best of british innovation and minds at the forefront of our nation and business leaders we should shoot them all and demand they pay for the bullets they consumed!

But the CEOs of Royal Mail are not businessmen nor entrepreneurs. That is one of the reasons why we are so far behind the curve compared to our competitors and rather than being anything different we just seem to be copying their business model. Like you say we have a monopoly on letters which is a USP over our competitors but all the business is thinking about is how can we reduce the number of mail delivery days so that everyone is overworked. They have sold off many of the smaller rural DOs, they want rid of 700 managers, they have not adequately replaced full time staff as most offices run on OT. Now they want changes in our terms and conditions.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.
