DUPLICATE: Some of the duplicate leaflets delivered to Mr Hunt over a five week period

Royal Mail has started an investigation after a resident complained of duplicate advertising flyers being delivered through his letterbox along with his regular post.

Ian Hunt, of Branksome Grove, Shipley, said it was not the fact he was getting too many leaflets and flyers through the door, but the fact most were in duplicate.

“Companies are paying good money to have these leaflets printed and will be paying Royal Mail to deliver them.

“But I rarely get a single leaflet through the door. Most often there are two of the same, often more. This means that the company may be reaching less than half the addresses it is paying for. I have spoken to my neighbours and they say they often get duplicates delivered through the post too.

“It is not fair on businesses who are paying for a service they are not getting.

“I used to work for Morrisons at their head quarters until I retired three years ago.

“It is only since I retired that I have noticed how many duplicated leaflets, or junk mail, as people call it, comes through the door.

“My wife used to put them straight in the recycling bin if they were not of any interest.

“Morrisons has been among some of the duplicated leaflets I have had and I even phoned head office one day to tell them what was happening. I have been keeping all the leaflets posted through my letter box for the last five weeks. There was only one occasion when I got a single one. The rest were duplicated.

“I really think Royal Mail should do something about it.

“I guess in addition to the shocking value for money the businesses are getting there is probably a knock-on environmental impact. The responsible recycling households will transfer them straight to the recycle bin whilst others may not bother and finish in landfill.”

Farmfoods was one of the companies where Mr Hunt received more than one flyer and in two postal deliveries received six leaflets.

A spokesman for Farmfoods said they thanked Mr Hunt for alerting them to the problem and they would make their own investigations with Royal Mail.

A spokesman for Royal Mail said: “Royal Mail is investigating this matter and we would like to thank the customer for bringing this to our attention. All mail that we deliver is important to us, and we apologise for any inconvenience caused. Any customers with concerns about their mail can contact our Customer Services team via our website royalmail.com, via Twitter @RoyalMail or via phone on 03457 740 740”.

Screws are on the warpath when it comes to excess d2d at our d.o. We have to "explain" any leftovers at the end of the week. Looks like someone has been disposing of their excess by posting them randomly, or couldn't be bothered to go to every door like they're supposed to.

What I don't understand is that if you have to do 20% of door to door dai!y then why can management say that the average posts has a 72% house call rate daily. Total bullshit. The union, well there nothing like they used to be but better in one, and all the staff still there need to revamp this union.

At our D. O. we were told to go back over the same ground with any excess D2D’s. The trouble is , as with most things in this business, there is absolutely no consistency, if I go to Mcdonalds in Birmingham,or Belfast I get exactly the same service ,because they set clear and concise rules as to service level etc. Okay we don’t do burgers but we do ,do the same basic function throughout the country, yet no two offices run the same.

They are very uncrumpled for having been posted through his door - anyone else manage to deliver D2D consistently in this good condition???

Not surprised. Our lino and dom have started to put all the excess into our lapsed duty for the following week to get rid of them as they are too scared to tell their gaffer that there is any excess.

Another inconsistency, your local MC is supposed to send that straight back to you

Why would the MC send the D2D back?
What would the DO be expected to do with it?

Management are supposed to ensure delivery to specification. Once they've accepted it as "excess" they've effectively made a statement that it's been done. Once the excess is collected and sent back there's no way to know where it came from or where it should go. There are arbitrary targets of <1% but I doubt any DO is making that target legitimately.

As far as I know our spares are collected up and go back 'somewhere'. Not sure where. They don't come back!

I bet this particular householder is a serial moaner and it's done to annoy him. We used to put multiples through the doors of people who had previously tried to shove them back at us claiming they didn't want them, but hadn't followed the official opt-out routine. I know one guy who put his excess through one house when covering another round when he heard it was a moaner.

Anyway, GDPR means I must now opt in to this sh*te from now on???

Nope

GPDR (General Data Protection Regulation) only applies to data, unaddressed leaflets have no Data to be regulated.
