Ping every 90 seconds ?

Not my PDA, I dissable the coms to help save battery power  and reconect & send the events when I get back to the office.

If I was the sort of person that was really paranoid, I'd disrupt the GPS signal by wrapping it in tin-foil :Very Happy

And if your really, really, really paranoid.... a tin-foil lined hat will stop the DOM from reading your thoughts :left:

How is this happening post revision? Particularly when review is supposed to take place. What is quite obvious is the calibre of management in some places is very poor and there is a definite suggestion of over-manning and that gives the impression that all areas are the same.

Trying to play "devils advocate" there are many reasons why Resourcing to Workload may/ may not work in any given office,
but to say "historically" this has always happened is not a fair portrait on what is happening in the field, with the diverse amount of of Letters, flats, parcels, specials, recordeds, tracked etc that fill our daily workload these days history has got nowt to do with it, that said I believe that it was the P&M Agreement that first mentioned " utilising all paid hours" and then BT2010 and now the AFG, and this is where peoples mindset needs to change, Lapsing, absorbsion, is here to stay especially if there is capacity in your duty time, the problem with this as with all things in RM is that it is taken as an average across your whole unit, not on an individual basis,(you know the ones that can/ or can't) and this needs to be addressed, and YES we have gone thru Methods, both inside and outside.
The point mentioned about PDA'S... the trial is going on in the 20 offices that were visited by all that strand group stuff, no big secret there, but what does concern me and others is are those offices included in this, logging onto the PDA'S when they turn up for work, when they do their households, when they do IPS, when they do prep, when they tie up and more importantly when they leave to commence delivery.
As they are out on Delivery all info is stored every "30 seconds" so NO hiding places there then as should be the case, but on return to the office " WHO LOGS OFF THE PDA"?????????
The next Generation of PDA'S will be built on the info gathered on the one's currently in the field, lets hope we all get it right :wave :wave

Dvbuk don't believe all the rumours , there are 31 outstanding walk sequencing revisions to do in London so yes there is still a reduction in some offices required. However you have to also look at some facts that 14% of the overall parcels increase is within the M25 area which is a fairly small area compared to the rest of the UK. The parcels growth is not everywhere .

20% of the Uk priority service market is within London. The growth in new houses , apartments and flats is in big cities especially in London. One office which is due a BT revision is SW8 South Lambeth it currently has 15 000 delivery points within 18 months it will have an extra 16 000 delivery points as the buildings around the old Nine Elms site go live.

Now whether you anti London or anti union , when you agree a revision you agree a model week , unless you have agreed the lowest you will find that during the summer your traffic and therefore your performance drops within the office as when there is fewer items of Mail you normally finish your Manual and prep earlier and your walk sequencing is less.

If you have fewer items on delivery your call rate will be reduced therefore whilst you may be walking the same ground you will not be delivering to all the addresses that you would do in say October.

Now the agreement says there is a national door to door drop which is the Sun newspaper advert which will be in every area apart from Liverpool for obvious reasons.

Now unless you revision is a complete mess where you are going over every day then during the summer when your traffic falls then the chances are you will if you don't have absorption being finishing early. This is because when you agree your revision you have agreed the number of walks based on an higher model week so say you agreed 50 walks on say weeks 41- 44 then that would be in a heavy traffic period then say August when if you have the same number of walks you will have less traffic and therefore your performance will reduce.

Glenno is right the service review agreement has agreed that the PDA information in the 20 trial offices which are throughout the UK. This allows you to track each delivery shows how long they are at each address , the route , the welfare break and obviously the time it's logged off.

So Dvbuk summer resourcing is nothing to do with the North South Divide but because traffic dips in the summer period and therefore if the same hours in the office remain then an offices performance drops and therefore you are likely to finish before your time if your ips , prep and call rates are less then in Febraury.

Not rumour dingo but people who work down there. Still 31 revisions to go???? Why? Our revision has been in 4 years and the agreement ran out in 2013 so what makes London any different - the over manning perhaps? which makes the job look easy.

Don't you believe rumour dingo that there is a greater increase in workload in the South. As for development you would need to go some to beat the new housing in the North West. When you've had a revision in for 4 years, the increase in parcels and packets coupled with development does not lend itself to lapsing. As for IPS being less - it may be if you're over manned and people to spare - our IPS is going on until 0930, 30 minutes over schedule and the OPGs are still in the office at 11.15 in some instances. Maybe the Area and Div Reps should get involved but they'd need a sat nav to find us and be able to drive.

The data collected on the walk by the PDA dingo is only part of the story you would need to judge if the OPG is using the equipment scheduled and taking breaks and working the exact hours.

utter shite as usual , we lapse all year and most of the time it takes me and my partner over our time as we start on time , meal reliefs and use trolleys , even on a so called easy Tuesday we finish on time , we have been tested indoors and pissed it but he sweeps the outdoor when asked under the carpet :arrrghhh , so where would we stand with this ? or are we just expected to do it at usual.

Begs the question why are you working past your time?

Inform a manager that you are unlikely to complete your delivery in the time you have and do as he says, but you should be cutting off and returning anything you have left to the ofiice.
Unless you are getting overtime and are happy to keep doing it.

mezza we have tried this and have been told to bring back all pkts and parcels you have to knock for , and was also told do the collapse first ? which we have informed the rep, what I mean is we have no issues going over or working to our time on our own but the powers above says mail etc is down and theres another 100 calls each for the next 5 days for the next 12 weeks. then what ?

the online shopping phenomena is everywhere and that's what the union should be emphasising.
Which area of the UK hasn't seen any growth in online shopping?

Since our main workload and the main impactor on delivery spans now is parcels not letters and in the last 3 years I've seen little or no reduction in parcel traffic during the summer months I think the whole premiss of this agreement is flawed.

If you take Christmas out of the equation and lets be honest no office has a model week based on Christmas traffic levels anyway, why would parcel traffic reduce during the summer?... It makes very little sense, people do go on holiday but they also order a great deal of stuff to take with them. Kids are off school and bored which drives more online sales. At some point someone has to ask the question if letter volumes are really at a 15 year low does a 10% reduction really make that much difference through the summer months when set against packet growth?

I think that once again like delivery to neighbour this is a case of negotiators making agreements with very little experience of the real world of Royal Mail.

There are no windows in the ivory tower :cuppa I have a theory that these so called negotiators agree to whatever is on the table and then make up the details to suit their negotiating without knowing a whit about the reality of a delivery office outside of London. I mean who else believes there has been no traffic growth in packets and parcel outside the M25

I'll never really believe the mail is down story. Been in the job a good while. In the old days used to start at 5 and be bagged up by 6ish and in the canteen having a roll before we hit the street for delivery. Now we start later, chuck off D2D, could take 30 mins depending how many you have, get called up on IPS for maybe 90 mins. That's 2 hours before you throw a letter in. Some days then with 20 mins MR taken we don't get out of the door till almost 11. So, what used to take us an hour now takes over 4 with lower volumes. Perhaps the volumes are down but productivity is just massively increased. I have no problem with lapsing, absorbing or anything else if I have time left in my duty. I want a full time job. If I don't have time though, they can lapse all they like, I'm not doing it, simple as.

We already have extra leave in for the summer, but I've also said the same. Parcels don't go down, because as you say more people are at home ordering parcels.
