Got wet.. then even more wet.. and then got wetter still, with soggy mail, packets and 739's stuck through doors. To cap it all I even had this convo (not all verbatim but as near as damnit) today as well with the local curtain twitcher.

Curtain Twitcher near her gate: "Are you the postman?"
Me: (standing there on the pavement near their gate with pouring rain running down my uniform and the mail getting soaked) replied.
"Nope.. I just dress like this for the fun of it and help him out on his delivery.. I am actually an elf" (sarcasm delivered with a smile) :nana :whistle
and then walked on.
Them: "I was only asking as I got a card through my door just now"
Me: (walking back) "Wasn't me madam, as you can see I've only just got here and I was going past as you have no mail today, look at the time on the card and see what that says."
Them: "It came through the door about an hour ago."
Me: "Well that answers that one then doesn't it." (again sarcastically.. and with yet another smile)
Them: But I need it today, it's important"
Me: (looks at card), "Sorry, you'll have to get it tomorrow, pointing at the ticked box... it says you'll have to get it the next day as you weren't in when the driver came."
Them: "I only popped out for a few minutes"
Me: "How's he meant to know that then? If no-one is in then he'll leave a card to tell you he's been."
Them: Why didn't he leave it with a neighbour like you say you can do?"
Me: (getting a bit pissed off now)
"Madam." If he doesn't feel that it is safe to do so then he won't leave it with a neighbour as it's his job on the line if it goes missing or they deny having it, and I am not in charge of him. So that's down to him and not me. If I was in his position then I'd do exactly the same. I have to go now as I have another two bags of mail to deliver and I can't stand here and chew the fat with you, as much as you'd like to do so, no doubt indoors and in the dry. I am outside getting soaked through here even more so talking to you about something that wasn't delivered by me.
Me (walking off to carry on delivering) :wave "Goodbye, and have a nice day now..... and if I don't see you again then "Happy Christmas" (muttering under my breath as I walk away .. "hope you get a redelivery and you ain't in.. again, so we can card you one more time")

A heavy day but at least it wasn't raining today!

Good to know that the spirit of goodwill is alive and kicking. One customer has a hole in their door where the cat flap should be and we use it for putting packets in. My reserve said before that he had been accused of hitting their cat with a letter in the past, and today I was accused of the same. The question is whether to 739 everything that won't fit through the letterbox from now on, or carry on as before (and check the cat hole every time, which I always do anyway!). If he wants to play silly bu**ers then I will too :dance

pahoehoe wrote:I think the worst day I Have worked. Never ending amounts of packets and letters, and the weather was awful. Packets falling apart in your hand because of the rain, the assault course that is some people's paths due to Christmas decorations, Pda failing on a regular basis and what is wrong with the tyres on the new vans, no grip whatsoever. Finished at 1530 thought I would be last back, but plenty still out. First Christmas after a revision, never felt so knackered. Day off Friday, good luck everyone.
Your day mirrors mine exactly even the finish time also pda kept falling out of pocket and not working properly after but today off same as me wierd.

Got done on time - well, five minutes late, but I was also five minutes late in the morning, so ... - but we didn't really take anything. Hardly any packets, only trackers (I say trackers in a farmer accent so you should, too) and specials really. Office is a shambles, I imagine there'll still be a pile-up going into Christmas. I hope nobody is nervously awaiting presents. It doesn't bother me but the company really needs to set some standards. This will be another Christmas where we lose business due to unhappy customers. I'm sure my office isn't unique in its failures.

Where the hell did all those cards come from this morning? Parcels all sorted and people to deliver them but no vans
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets

Another heavy day but not as bad as yesterday. I hope tomorrow seems like a normal Saturday but I predict that they'll be tons of everything. I'm proper fed up at the moment.

To customers: You know folks. There are magical places. These places are called shops. You could, for a change. Actually move your arse off your internet chair and boldly step out into the world and visit a few shops and buy stuff. You might find it a refreshing change.

Also. And here is a little hint. If you do decide that you can't bare the world and you absolutely must get online and order that stupid bit of crap that will get thrown away 5 minutes after using. It won't magically appear in your house unless you actually and physically stay home to receive it.

They gotta learn that if they do order something online then make sure that they or someone else is actually in on the day of delivery. Especially more so at this time of year. :cuppa

Very heavy on the mail today. Packets seemed to be less but could just be a lull. :hmmmm Rained again. Was asked by the DOM if I would do parcels after my walk. Didn't get as many done as I would have liked. Late finish on the walk etc. Ah well, 2 days to go.

Had to LAUGH today...Elderly lady rang up to complain...That we didn't tell her the Underpaid item was "just a Christmas Card".
Apparently, we were supposed to have informed her not to travel 6 miles, not to pay £1.50 for an item her friend had "accidently forgotten to put a stamp on."

Our "Policy" is awful and we shouldn't be able to get away with it too...So she was gonna ring Customer Service to tell them so, in no uncertain terms.

I was going to tell her that my X-Ray vision wasn't working, and that her friend was a total eejit for not putting a stamp on and that she could have rung up before picking the item up, and she could have refused the item.
But then...I'm WAY TOO MUCH of a Gentleman!!!

Made my Christmas...
