So you mean ,"I want to work until I'm 75 cos I can't survive on £2 a week" . It must be one of those "modern" lifestyle choicesborders wrote:thats fair enough, but meanwhile as our pensions are becoming worth less and less and we will need to pay more and more into our funds with less contributions from our employers , the need to stay at work longer will become a neccessity.RobertT wrote:All this change does is enable people to carry on working after 65 if they want to. There's nothing to say that they have to and if you take your retirement planning seriously you can still pack up before 65.

i think the word choice is a bit misleading !!!
"why should it just be the bankers, politicians and the idle rich who get all the best things ? we demand a standard of living for our members that enables them to share in the fine wines and times that the likes of Cameron and his Eton buddies take for granted " - the late great Bob Crow RIP.

I think it's a great idea. You work until you drop dead, then someone comes round in a lorry, clods you on the back and takes you to the tip..............after rifling through your pockets for any valuables..........think of the savings.

Re: End of the line for the default retirement age
Does this mean in a few years time no new blood will be coming into the company as we all work longer. Therefore the average age of a Postie will rise as with all companies meaning an awful lot of young workers will be unable to find work, meaning higher unemployment, crime, despair etc. It was 65 for a reason and one of them was to keep companies fresh with young, middle and senior members.

Re: End of the line for the default retirement age
It's been changed because the government has realised that pensions generally aren't enough to live on comfortably anymore and some firms were forcing staff to leave at 65 and live on state pension + pension credit - which doesn't pay much.mr bean wrote:Does this mean in a few years time no new blood will be coming into the company as we all work longer. This way, and with the rising of state pension age, the government will save money. But to the detriment of the nations workforce.
So if you don't want to work after 65, or maybe if you want to retire before that, it will be more and more down to the individual to provide for their own retirement and yes it will mean an older workforce.
