I think the uso has been dealt with in the deal. But union sez they can't reveal the details until everything is agreed.
So the extension is because royal mail are still trying not to uplift the new contracts. Think it's Dave ward himself doing this negotiations and not just Martin Walsh.
But u guys are right. Royal mail strung the union along past Christmas then straight away said they wanted executive action on uso and said no money for uplift.
Same might be happening now. String the union along past the committee date then turn around and refuse the uplift.

The problem is the RM ODM and what the Union Want couldn't be more further apart, it's not saving anywhere near what they want and it's not actually much better than what the postie's are doing now. These owners are stubborn, I think it's highly unlikely they will go for anything like what the union want.
6 into 8 sounds realistic and still a big sh1t show as it doesn't seem any better than the ODM.

In theory it is yes but there wouldn't be a swapping of duties AB Monday, Duties CD Tuesday and so on like the ODM.

No offices are fully staffed and are at least 25% down, 50% of new Starters are leaving, legacy staff leaving and not being replaced. It will suit RM to the ground. There will never be enough staff for VAR

I've brought this up many times and always been told it isn't mandatory equipment, where the hypothetical raised is always a dead Tuesday (remember those?) where you'd be pushing an LWT with so little in the bags that it would be eminently feasible to just carry it on your shoulder.

The outdoor span is longer. Some are 5 to 5.30 outdoor. Call rates over 85%.

If we're bringing back 2006 callrates we should also bring back the 3~3½ hour spans that accompanied them.

The agreement and sop have not changed. The use of a LWT is mandatory. You're absolutely spot on about the call rate. Some call rates have been in excess of 85%. Duties were never planned for high call rates, nor were staffing levels. An answer maybe to maintain rotations and duty patterns as they are. Delaying the traffic isn't working. It may one day when there isn't billions of letters to deliver.

Wrong, for most employees the most important reason for coming to work is money.
If you are unable to keep those employees, quality will never improve.
Sadly RM are no longer interested in quality, just profit.
Under the new delivery method (whatever method)which will require you to walk further & deliver more quality will fall further.

Then ballot to strike action over new entrants contracts and no legacy person will vote strike action for equalising contracts and that will be that.

dont think be any strike action why would their be? union sold us out on all our conditions last time and now guys on legacy arent exactly going want to strike when it doesnt affect them, wont happen

The problem the CWU have, is that this time last year they were fully onboard with the ODM. Literally selling it to the members all over social media. Saying there was no plan B. Saying that the company needed to do it. Explaining in minute detail how it was going to work. Given the chance to handpick a number of trial offices (you'd pick ones that are fully staffed, operating well, maybe a little scope to increase delivery length - likely to succeed - wouldn't you??).
But now we are told the ODM is dead instead of the reasons that it didn't work - other than it didn't work in the majority of the trial offices - why the secrecy, what made it work in some but not others. If it's a scale thing, bring it in gradually. Why not learn from that instead of keeping offices in turmoil up and down the country.
It seems pretty obvious that some sort of revision would have been needed to make walks a maximum size before ODM was brought in. Instead, we are a year on, in a dispute, and RM are up in front of the select committee again.
Pretty much all the issues that came with the ODM trials would have been known to the CWU before it started and you can bet they will still be there with the Heavy and Light model - if indeed we are not to deliver 2nd class mail every day and parcels only on a Saturday, there are only so many ways this can be dressed up. It's the reason people are saying both sound very similar.

Just six months ago, in their September issue, Your Voice was reporting from the trial offices with a very bury-the-lede and read-between-the-lines style.

I presume the union didn't turn against the ODM on a bi-polar whim, but on hard facts. The trials clearly uncovered them, so where is the report? Is it all wrapped up in commercial secrecy?

ODM is coming in, it may not be 100% what RM intended it to be but a version of ODM is coming to us all very soon
