New National policy - DPR loading Vans

LM told us this morning we are no longer allowed to scan and number our parcels inside the depot.

We have to take the yorks outside in the car park and scan and number them directly into the van, no parcels allowed on the floor, must go direct into the van.
Bearing in mind we have smaller Nissan vans that get 75% filled this seems stupid as hell.

We have always done this task inside as in my view I'm able to load the van safely and not have to hunt for parcels.

Can anyone else confirm this is now national policy as per what the LM told us.

Yep - we had this in writing couple of weeks back
Not only that but you only get 50 mins to load up to 140 parcels from 6-8 mixed yorks using the van loading tool on the gun -
In the yard in the midday sun or rain
And van check been reduced to 4 mins
And 10 mins max for returning to yard and scanning back in / pouching up

It’s a waste of time handling them indoors and again whilst loading the van, much better and far quicker doing it as u load the van.

I thought itd make sense to scan and number the parcels as you load the van rather than have to unload and then reload to then unload again into the van no?

We dont have DPR but I never understood the colleagues that took out and scanned all the oversized in the yorks only to then put them back into the yorks and then out to the yard to load into the van.

This won’t work. If we scan outside we are met with a loading spinning loop on the pda screen. It is also more efficient I have found to separate parcels into empty Yorks depending on the area it’s for/ what door you want to load it on to. Also if you have loaded one parcel but end up having multiples they will be separated in the van. Clearly a policy thought up by someone who has never worked the job.

When im instructed to get the packets out and abandon the mail this is how I do it. Roll the york out into the yard and list them up as I "Place" them in.

It makes sense because if you just pulled them from a mixed York you would be going this way and that around the van to load it. If you seg the parcels into areas you can load up one door at a time. Obviously if you only have one or 2 Yorks it doesn’t matter but for a full DPR round with 4+ Yorks it keeps things tight. Also you can chuck out the miss sorts and piss take small parcels as you go.

We can't chuck out mis-sorts if it's on your dpr route you take it.

I seg my parcels 1-10 11-19 20-29 etc etc then load those into normally 2 yorks, wheel them outside and load the van in 10 mins, safely, nothing worse than when your parcels shift and fall all over the place.

No it is not, fannying around scanning 120 items that only just fit in the van out in the yard not only takes longer but you cannot load the van safely to stop load shift when driving.
I've seen driving wasting 5 mins trying to find a parcel that's been buried by the load falling over.

You're not doing a DPR route, you're doing 2 walks with small packets on a walk you know very well, we are doing mostly large covering up to 8 walks that is allocated randomly each day..
