No skin in the game so i will try to be objective.
Firstly i find it strange that the union have wheeled out Martin to be the sacrificial lamb/spokesman for the latest pay talks, is Dave worried about sticking his head above the parapet?
I also find it strange that for the first time that i can remember since the last dispute, the union have mentioned industrial action.
Dan the man will have a plan, sounds like a "Sun" front page headline, the union don't know what that is, apart from making a wheelbarrow full of money, so it's a guessing game.
Dan will be well aware of the last dispute and will have the push back on the union ready and waiting.
I really hope that Dan is different from the last bunch of losers, but unless he has the commitment that you posties have to getting a workable delivery model in place i can't see it happening.
I would say this to the union though, listen to your members and hold your nerve, the alternative will be the death of this union and the workers rights within this company.
Good luck!
Think your analysis is bang on the mark. As I see it, Dan the Man has only upped his stake and bought the whole business as a result of the “excellent legwork”, as he doubtless sees it, done to irretrievably weaken the union’s hold over the last three years. I suspect he was one of the shareholders gleefully clapping his hands and applauding the company’s stance during the 2022/23 dispute. He isn’t about to roll over for the CWU. If anything, things are about to become even more commercialised and “real worldly” under his ownership. For now he is just being diplomatic, making the right noises and getting the formalities done and dusted.
The company will make allot of savings from USO change which puts the union in a better place to negotiate things like pay rises and overtime rates.
If they can work together on the change as well the negotiating better terms and conditions for all, there can be two happy parties as a result.
Expecting reps to just fight the business over every detail or change like some have stated on here instead of helping them direct the change is counterintuitive.
It is doing a disservice to the members.
Although I like the aspects of local bonus incentives scheme Martin mentions on the video I see it could lead to friction amongst staff in offices.
Potentially.

If these USO changes come in and the pay rise isn’t substantial with the same pay rate for all then the cwu top brass will need to pack their bags because it’ll be over for them.

It might not be the same rate of pay for all straight away but a flightpath over a period of time to reach the same level of the legacy contracts.
This will be the priority because it would be for any union.
Having two people doing the same job at two different pay rates will never sit right with any decent union.

And different t&c’s

Sunday working is a big one in our office.

Perhaps after a certain number of years you get removed from the Sunday rota if you want too (some people want the OT).

That seems reasonable because it does take time to learn different rounds and get up to speed on sorting. And once you do know most of it there will be a botched revision :Very Happy

Should be once you sign for a duty or float you move to those attendance patterns over the initial reserve ones you start on.

Can someone explain when Dave Ward said “ the Government will keep a Golden Share of Royal Mail when the takeover goes through” What does that mean? A % of the Business?

I think this article explains that it's a commitment that it will remain a UK based company, don't think the government own any part of it at all.

That works out around 2,702 full time duties (assuming the upper 100,000 figure) being removed across the business. A very sizeable chunk of staffing in MCs is already agency/casuals, even if RM were to swap more RM staff for agency/casuals in MCs, a sizeable chunk of them 2,702 duties are likely to be walks being removed.
