The company will make allot of savings from USO change which puts the union in a better place to negotiate things like pay rises and overtime rates.Smoothbackground wrote: ↑03 May 2025, 17:18Think your analysis is bang on the mark. As I see it, Dan the Man has only upped his stake and bought the whole business as a result of the “excellent legwork”, as he doubtless sees it, done to irretrievably weaken the union’s hold over the last three years. I suspect he was one of the shareholders gleefully clapping his hands and applauding the company’s stance during the 2022/23 dispute. He isn’t about to roll over for the CWU. If anything, things are about to become even more commercialised and “real worldly” under his ownership. For now he is just being diplomatic, making the right noises and getting the formalities done and dusted.scotchy1962 wrote: ↑03 May 2025, 08:28No skin in the game so i will try to be objective.
Firstly i find it strange that the union have wheeled out Martin to be the sacrificial lamb/spokesman for the latest pay talks, is Dave worried about sticking his head above the parapet?
I also find it strange that for the first time that i can remember since the last dispute, the union have mentioned industrial action.
Dan the man will have a plan, sounds like a "Sun" front page headline, the union don't know what that is, apart from making a wheelbarrow full of money, so it's a guessing game.
Dan will be well aware of the last dispute and will have the push back on the union ready and waiting.
I really hope that Dan is different from the last bunch of losers, but unless he has the commitment that you posties have to getting a workable delivery model in place i can't see it happening.
I would say this to the union though, listen to your members and hold your nerve, the alternative will be the death of this union and the workers rights within this company.
Good luck!
If they can work together on the change as well the negotiating better terms and conditions for all, there can be two happy parties as a result.
Expecting reps to just fight the business over every detail or change like some have stated on here instead of helping them direct the change is counterintuitive.
It is doing a disservice to the members.
Although I like the aspects of local bonus incentives scheme Martin mentions on the video I see it could lead to friction amongst staff in offices.
Potentially.
