Tony Bouch claims if the trials don’t work then the CWU won’t back the USO reforms, if this is true why are RM currently recruiting
several People Engagement & Transition Deployment Managers whose key role is to provide support and planning of any possible USO reform, seems to be jumping the gun to employ these new management on £50,000 salary if according to the union the USO changes are not a done deal
All jobs are currently advertised on RM jobs
Apologies for reviving and oldish thread. Ive heard there are "issues" with the current USO trials. Theyre struggling with the increased call rate (which will be no surprise to someone thats actually done the job but beyond comprehension so the clowns with laptops). The source was a manager so I dont think he would spin a yarn like that. From what im hearing from the union everything is rosey and the USO is being rolled out nationwide this summer with a view to the latest offices going live next spring ie the majority of offices will be done this summer.
From another thread there's upcoming realignments in all MCs due to go live early summer this year so the USO will probably be rolled out at every DO at the same time.
Sounds about right. Lets hope im wrong about the trial problems and it all goes well. Still amazes me that a company can implement such drastic change on the assumption that the regulator will agree to scrapping the USO. It's clearly a done deal but the regulator needs looking into if thats the case. Theyre not there to assist the company with increasing profits, theyre there to regulate and monitor the company.
They don't need the approval of the regulator for the changes.
Best ask Martin Walsh why he was saying that the regulator wont support the reform without the approval of the CWU/workforce
Thats not me saying you are lying.
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next
All the changes mean is more work for the staff that remain at RM. There will never be a light day ever again. Continuous 2/3 day mail workloads or driving around getting in and out of the van over and over again. Plus they'll probably want longer days. I'm already knackered doing the shifts we have currently, not sure I could physically do longer days.
It's almost like it's an experiment to see how far RM can push it's employees until they break. But then what is the end goal? If it is to have a transient workforce, the business will fail catastrophically.
It does seem like this. I wonder if it is mainly fear tactics to encourage as many people on the legacy contracts as possible, for a set period of time, to quit. Also, RM seem hell bent on demonstrating total incompetence, assuming at some point rules will be relaxed to allow for a particular level of incompetence since it's already blatantly clear nobody has the balls to address the total incompetence, and, to the government, etc, a particular level would be preferable to total while still increasing RM's profits. Finally, RM want a low share price for the takeover.
It really could all be total BS.
If that’s RM plan it isn’t working. In my office it’s the new starters who quit with in the week. Old timers on old contracts ain’t going any wher lol
Do you think Amazon is full of long term employees? Maybe at management level, but the delivery aspect of their operation is a revolving door of minimum wage schleps, desperate for a job.

Many of the walks in our office are that big that if you have 2/3 days mail on them then you are lucky to get one walk of the 2 completed. Once this new BS launches that'll be 4 days mail next time it's touched and then it's totally bolloxed. They'll be relying on increasing time spent outdoors to get anywhere near it working. Not something I want to do as the walking we do already makes me feel knackered most days.
Been told they are putting a duty back into my wee sub-office, well i guess that might happen, but i figure they will just try to soldier on with a never ending failure as it makes them more money.
Trials are just paying lip service to ofcom, after it is all agreed i would expect more of what we are experiencing at the moment and maybe even worse, they don't give a feck about anything except tracked and while nobody holds their feet to the fire they will do what they want.

Yep. We can’t keep people.
’You can't just ask customers what they want and then try to give that to them. By the time you get it built, they'll want something new.’
My DO only has around 50 duties but we have a constant stream of posties leaving, both new starters and old contract staff, we're probably losing at least one or two a month, within 12 months that's nearly a staff turnover of 50% p.a.!! This is before we potentially get double or triple post on the town rounds every day.

I don’t think RM have realised that they’ve already cut to the bone.

Which is their de facto business model - keeps costs down while Bezos makes his billions

If my brief experience at an Amazon fulfilment centre a long time ago was anything to go by, in RM's future the only permanent employees would be Workplace Coaches.
