Re: Delivery Method Change?
I don’t know what the union are playing at. Their stance shifted in the last few months of the pay dispute. They went from “we’re standing our ground” to “we need to accept that letters are declining and we need to change” almost overnight. What they should be doing is trying to engage the public rather than telling us the same thing over and over again. Profit on letters has increased this last quarter. It’s profit that counts more than volume (unless you’re conning a workforce of course). The work and revenue is there. They should be pushing this aspect ie scrutinising their accounts rather than rolling over and letting the posties at the end of the pipeline take a kicking every few months.

Re: Delivery Method Change?
All the van share posties at our office are part timers. The full timers are on single rural routes.postiewhite wrote: ↑04 Feb 2025, 08:52So I take it there are 3 people to 4 walks?
If one of those 3 is a part timer then does 2 full timers need to prep 4 walks of D2D's instead of 2 walks they are doing now, bearing in mind some weeks you can have 4 leaflets?
Has anyone got any feedback that are actually on these trials right now?

people in ours who can drive but don't currently do for the company want to now. That tells you everything about having to constantly do 2-3 days worth of mail.

The game changer was when RM threatened to remove union subs from our payslips, forcing the union to sort their own system of obtaining subs. That was when the union surrendered. It keeps them at the table.

Setting up Direct Debits would have been too much of a hardship?
This wasn't the first time Royal mail had threatened to do this either so it wasn't a "game changer." It wasn't anything.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

The subs will quickly been withdrawn all together if they wave this through. It will be the final straw for many.SMS1969 wrote: ↑04 Feb 2025, 16:14Crowseer wrote: ↑04 Feb 2025, 15:24I don’t know what the union are playing at. They knew that would have been harder as many people might not have been arsed if it didn’t deduct automatically from their wages, so I strongly disagree.clashcityrocker wrote: ↑04 Feb 2025, 16:23Setting up Direct Debits would have been too much of a hardship?

Re: Delivery Method Change?
Probably not as everyone in will be doing parcels and 1c. They won't pay for staff just to stay indoors for a day when they're trying to reduce labor costs.Jefferson Starfish wrote: ↑04 Feb 2025, 09:06I think the plan is D2D's will be prepped on Saturdays by the people not going out on delivery.?postiewhite wrote: ↑04 Feb 2025, 08:52So I take it there are 3 people to 4 walks?

Re: Delivery Method Change?
If RM threatened to stop taking union deductions from payslips, CWU should’ve retaliated by threatening to take 100,000 members holiday pay cases back through ACAS/ the courts instead of adhering to the abysmal 8 hour rule.
The constant union attitude of rolling over and accepting any crumbs thrown on the floor is sad to see, especially as the crumbs are getting smaller and are being thrown further away.

The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.

I know. The amount of input that the CWU have put into this is mind-blowing when you consider that this USO method change could lead to thousands more job losses than a straightforward 5 day USO that they originally wanted. Perhaps the union will rake in more subs from the 11,000 posties who will move onto permanent full time contracts?
More Saturdays off and a small profit share scheme might be the carrot that's dangling for some but the stick being wielded is great. I'm not against change and I'm all for retaining jobs for the future, but it's obvious for anyone to see that RM must be making some decent profits if they can afford to recruit another CEO, ask shareholders to increase Seidenberg's salary to £3 million and give £5k bonuses to thousands of managers. Those who are delivering 3 days mail and D2Ds will be expected to clear but if offices aren't clearing now on a daily basis then that premise doesn't look too good for the future.
The fact that Ofcom have proposed reducing RM's delivery targets are quite telling. They only fined the company £10.5 million for missing its delivery targets last time round but if they expect these changes to save RM annual net cost savings of between £250 to £425 million then RM might feel the need to up its game. While the Union talks about manageable and achievable workloads something tells me that there could instead be more pressure on posties to meet these targets.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Re: Delivery Method Change?
Does anyone know what the average % of mail per day is 1st class?
I am imagining that there isn't going to be much and we'd be delivering the mail a lot like we will be delivering the parcels....drive and drop...
or will we still have enough mail to do loops...which will surely still be light, so therefore inefficient?...a lot of dead walking?
