How will vr work ?

Any excess staff will be deemed supernumerary and moved to other shifts or offices. That's what happened in MCs during the last realignment

A lot of people wanted VR in our mail centre & they were told if they didn't pick a job they would be moved to another office or forced to go on a walk, so we're forced to pick a job. Then when all the jobs were picked, they decided the people that were left could take VR if they wanted it. It's left a lot of people with a lot of seniority still working while people with no seniority got VR. Some left soon after the repick with well over 30 years service with nothing. I don't think they could force people to go on a walk or move to another office.Terrible the way it was done.

Yeah doing the same role as you were employed to do though

They could make a role redundant and offer alternative employment elsewhere in the business rather than compulsory redundancy but I dont see how they could force someone employed as a mail screener for instance to become a ''Postperson with driving'' in another office.

When people started in our office before privatisation they were told they might be sent to other offices but only within the post code area

Id be happy with compulsory redundancy on the paltry 9 months on vr terms now I'd only be 1500 below, so bring it on ,well done c w u !!

Didn't the cwu guy other day say theres only likely to be 2000 or 3000 vr redundancies nationwide.

So thats like a 1 in 30 chance of getting offered it. I wouldn't hold your hopes. In reality probably 1 - 100 chance as it will be certain offices with most vr offered.

I'd expect that it will be those on "legacy" contracts who'll get offered VR first so that RM can further reduce the number of staff on "legacy" contracts

I'll be surprised if anyone gets offered VR. There is natural wastage and people who start now that move on after a short while. I certainly wouldn't hold out for the chance

Delivery postie is a dead end job now, used to be a chance of moving to different areas of the company. Not any more, next thing on the chopping block will be seniority. The only new OPGs that last more than 6 months now are trying to climb the greasy pole and when they realise that is locked down they leave lol

Not true. Two among our new-entrant cohort have been accepted for the deputy/trainee manager scheme and are awaiting start dates.
