How will vr work ?
I'm keen to hopefully get vr this year ,marin Walsh says there could be a maximum of 2600 voluntary redundancys all together, how will they decide this I know on seniority firstly ,but will it be on the size of the delivery office ,for eg an office with 200 staff might shed 4 jobs an office with 50 1 job , I'm just intrigued how they will go about this ,will every office be wanting at least 2 people to leave .

Re: How will vr work ?
I'm guessing it will depend on how fully staffed your office is, if you have vacancies then you might have a big fat zero VRs. There's a reason Royal Mail have been running with so many vacancies.

Any excess staff will be deemed supernumerary and moved to other shifts or offices. That's what happened in MCs during the last realignment

How about stop making statements when clearly we are now playing with a whole new set of rules. What happened previously may not be what's going to happen in the future.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑16 Jan 2025, 20:07Any excess staff will be deemed supernumerary and moved to other shifts or offices. Re: How will vr work ?
Moving to "other shifts" clearly won't apply to posties, likewise I doubt RM can force staff to move 10+ miles to work in another office.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑16 Jan 2025, 20:07Any excess staff will be deemed supernumerary and moved to other shifts or offices. I can't get my head around the total VR figers, MW gave an example of an office with 50 duties only requiring, post the USO reforms, 25 posties to deliver the mail and 12.5 posties to deliver Tracked/1c at the start of each week, so that's 37.5 staff v 50 staff at present, plus they'll be a similar split on reserves, that's over a 10% reduction, if there's say 50,000 posties then that's 5,000 job losses?
Looking at it from a different angle how are RM going to save up to £300m p.a. by cutting just 2,500 jobs?

2500 through VR and the rest through people leaving naturally and not being replacedTopperGas wrote: ↑16 Jan 2025, 21:17Moving to "other shifts" clearly won't apply to posties, likewise I doubt RM can force staff to move 10+ miles to work in another office.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑16 Jan 2025, 20:07Any excess staff will be deemed supernumerary and moved to other shifts or offices. If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

Re: How will vr work ?
Just a few rough thoughts.
How does RM save £300 million.
Less Delivery staff ;
Less wages
Less overtime payments
Less employers NI contributions
Less employers Pension contributions
Less Christmas bonus payments
Less holidays to cover
Less sickness payments
Less uniform costs.
Savings on Saturdays with less vehicles going out,
If half the £300 million was obtained through natural 'wastage', that would leave £150 million to be saved.
An employee could be costing RM on average £40,000
So around 3000 VRs might be in and around the necessary number.
Just a few rough thoughts, go easy :)

Re: How will vr work ?
You would think that the VRs would be at offices where nobody ever leaves.
At our office people are always leaving so I would have thought they'd never offer anyone at our office a VR. It wouldn't make sense to me why they would offer it. Why pay someone ~£28,000 to leave when posties resign each month.
Is there anyone at an office that had VRs during the last set of VRs which I think were after the strikes? Is your office small or medium sized where nobody ever leaves or rarely leaves?

Re: How will vr work ?
The actual figure is between 7000 and 9000 job losses over a 2 year period the Royal mail expects 2500 of those jobs to be voluntary redundancy the rest natural attrition based on who's left over the last few years, but the union understands attrition among members will now slow down as they know redundancy is on the cards .

Re: How will vr work ?
A lot of people wanted VR in our mail centre & they were told if they didn't pick a job they would be moved to another office or forced to go on a walk, so we're forced to pick a job. Then when all the jobs were picked, they decided the people that were left could take VR if they wanted it. It's left a lot of people with a lot of seniority still working while people with no seniority got VR. Some left soon after the repick with well over 30 years service with nothing. I don't think they could force people to go on a walk or move to another office.Terrible the way it was done.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑16 Jan 2025, 20:07Any excess staff will be deemed supernumerary and moved to other shifts or offices.
