So just to sum up Thursday's live CWU comms, those who are full-time are still officially full-time, whilst those who are part-time will still remain part-time but some of the lucky ones regardless of seniority will get a full-time contract based on local office needs?

Never mind attacking the man not the ball because the problem isn't the players that are on the pitch. It's difficult to know what game the Union are playing when they keep shifting the goalposts just so that they can keep nice warm seats in the directors box.

No. It's got the weakest union reps. Those with the lower figures are where the CWU has failed to defend duty structures and full time jobs. The CWU has sat and watched as full time jobs have been lost. The higher figures are where the resourcing structure has been adhered too.

Hearing from a very reliable source and a Martin Walsh fan to boot that when the list of those eligible to be made FT was supplied by HR to their office(nearly 50)....all of them were already FT! If replicated around the country this might explain why hardly anyone on this forum knows of anyone with a temporary variation of contract!

Let me get this straight... I'm just a layman

Part time staff on the old contact will be offered a full time contract on the legacy T&C's.
If the quota is not full then what? Would...
Part time staff on the new contract will be offered a full time contract on the new T&C's?

Alot of the 'senior' staff in my office (south central) are winding down their hours and have no interest in committing to working longer. So, in theory, there will still be an imbalance of PT/FT. If the newer staff were offered the uplift on the new T&C then the CWU once again have shown their acceptance to a 2 tiered workforce

It is undoubtedly good news and it was needed given the takeover

The problem is how the news was first presented

Most of the people getting the permanant contract already considered themselves as being fulltimers/35 hour guys as in their eyes they already signed a contract years ago to start doing FT/increased hours

They dont consider themselves PTers and other PTers dont consider them to be

Its mostly these guys and girls getting the good news

Most of them are now only finding out their contract is a ''temporary variation'' which you cant be surprised about given like you say, some have had the ''temporary variation'' for 7 years!

It got a lot of the real long standing part timers hopes up - the ones on 25-30 hour contracts who have never been offered even a temporary variation contract despite doing regular OT

Indeed the existence of the temporary variation contract is going to be one of the big talking points going forward now

I have asked on other thread dont know if you seen it yet but guess this thread gets more exposure so will repost;

''Question for Martin for those of us who are PT but arent on a variation contract, if we ever get offered an increased contract will this be a permanant contract or will it be one of these variation contracts and the ship has now sailed getting a permanent contract? It says future increased contracts will be on legacy terms (for those currently on legacy terms ) but what about the permanency of it?

I do regular OT without any variation contract and i'd find it galling to be offered a variation contract in the future now knowing they arent really woth the paper they are written on and that those given them before me have had them made permanent - im sure loads will feel the same way
