Re: First class only for 8 weeks?
Hang on.
Ignoring DSA for a second, the majority of mail (letters) delivered on Tuesday is 1c anyway.
It’s precisely because of 2c Advancement on weekend that we have a light Tuesday.
The odd 2c that does come through will have slipped through or is significantly delayed.
I’m assuming the thinking here is if you only deliver 1c letters (and no DSA) then it should reduce call rate even further. Reducing pressure overtime, increasing lapsing or something else to try and make use of that lower call rate.

So what happened to getting staff off more on Saturdays?? Thought that was the planblackdog wrote: ↑04 Jan 2025, 15:51Anyone else being hit with a PRODUCTIVITY CHALLENGE? first class mail only every Tuesday for 8 weeks beginning 13th of January. I've been told that it's nationwide but I smell a rat. Most of the office moved to a Tuesday off without consultation, whilst the rest of us have to cover two dutys doing all parcels, packets and first class mail, then on the Wednesday getting hit with two days mail and d2d's.

CWU reps are incapable of representing their own image in a mirror. It's nonsense. Whatever happens in your workplace is what happens. The days of the one plan are over. Every office is run however the employer wants. You do the same, whatever you want. Either finish on time or book the docket. Those getting ever Tuesday off who work longs and shorts will need to book the docket for going over their hours every week. Like every idea it'll last until someone gets bored or the next problem comes along. You'll also need to watch the leave hours as more will be deducted whilst having Tuesdays off.blackdog wrote: ↑04 Jan 2025, 19:38According to him he knew nothing about it when I messaged him, however after he contacted OPL he told me it was national and in every office UK wide. I'm having doubts to say the least.tramssirhc wrote: ↑04 Jan 2025, 18:36So your area reps has agreed it?blackdog wrote: ↑04 Jan 2025, 17:50Area rep told me that it's national, in every office UK wide.. Well nothing mentioned at our place so if this is supposed to start a week tomorrow that doesn't give them long to work out which favourites get to keep their rotating days off and who gets shafted, I'll guess the reserves will be top of the shafted list for a start but there won't be enough of them.

If Tuesday is a shorter day they’ll have to reduce the hours of the other days or your week will be more than 37 hours if they want that as your day off every week.

Re: First class only for 8 weeks?
I assume the benefit to RM is most staff are off on a light Tuesday but working the heavier days of the week? If they asked us to pick a day off I assume, workload wise anyway, we'd all pick a Wednesday or Thursday each week?posted wrote: ↑04 Jan 2025, 20:10Hang on.

Anybody struggling physically with the job will now have to work Wednesday to Saturday without a day off, which are the four heaviest days of the week.

Re: First class only for 8 weeks?
Given RM need OFCOM approval for their proposed changes then there must be more to it than just Ic deliveries?

Re: First class only for 8 weeks?
As it stands:
Postal Service Act 2011:
and31 Minimum requirements
This section sets out the services that must, as a minimum, be included in a universal postal service.
Requirement 1: delivery of letters or other postal packets
(1) At least one delivery of letters every Monday to Saturday—
(a) to the home or premises of every individual or other person in the United Kingdom, or
(b) to such identifiable points for the delivery of postal packets as OFCOM may approve.
(2) At least one delivery of other postal packets every Monday to Friday to the places within paragraph (1)(a) or (b).
So if OFCOM deem it suitable to review and change the minimum requirement they can do so as long as the SofS agrees and orders the amendment.34 Review of minimum requirements
(1)OFCOM may from time to time review the extent to which the provision made by section 31 reflects the reasonable needs of the users of postal services provided in the United Kingdom.
(2)A review under subsection (1) may, in particular, consider whether the requirements imposed by that section could be altered so as better to reflect those needs.
(3)OFCOM must send a copy of each review under subsection (1) to the Secretary of State.
(4)The Secretary of State may at any time direct OFCOM to carry out a review under subsection (1).
(5)Where OFCOM have carried out a review under subsection (1), the Secretary of State may by order amend section 31.
If the above paragraph (31) is not changed, then on a 'no second class/DSA' delivery day those mail formats shouldn't come through to the DO surely?
Or are OFCOM going to let that slide? No room at the MC's to store the 2c/DSA?
The SofS is obviously waiting for the trials to be 'a unmitigated success' (RM speak not mine!) before ordering an amendment then.

Re: First class only for 8 weeks?
Apart from large T48/2C packets, 1C and 2C gets sorted together these days. When the large is being sorted after the final outward dispatch has gone in the evening any local stuff gets wheeled over to the large packet setups and sorted along with any 1C and inward.
2C mech will still be run along with the 1C, it won't be worth running the 1C on its own.
It's going to be down to the DOs to extract the 2C as it's being sorted to the walks
