But Martin Walsh told us that all part time staff would be given the "opportunity" to move up to full time 🤔
No he didn’t

Claret and blue you are wrong. The joint statement states that approximately 11 thousand will get the opportunity to accept the offer of an increase in their contracted hours up to and including full time from 1st January 2025.

We are in talks with Royal Mail including identifying those who will be offered this opportunity. More details will come out in early January. Please do not play this down as for 11 thousand part timers this is a good news story.
Read it back carefully

Not all

It applies to those who are already doing full time hours on a temporary uplift contract

Most of those 11,000 will be people who are already considered full timers by most but officially on paper aren’t permanent full time

35 hour contracted guys doing 37 hours for instance
Nowhere does it mention 35 to 37 hours, like I originally said, it's disingenuous.
unfortunately I think a lot of people are in for a major disappointment

I thini 35 hours is still considered “less than full time”

Maybe Martin can clear it up
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

By how much ?
For first 10 hours of overtime the rate is 24 pence an hour less than normal rate and after 10 hours it’s about 60 pence less than normal rate
Shocking I know and unheard of in any other organisation
Agreed it's shite, and actually even worse than that as delivery supplement applies up to 37 hours for which it's almost £30.

It’s really about those on 24 or 32.5 hour contracts. Bringing them up to full time if they want it.

It’s not

Only 37 hours is

this is from before shorter working week went to 37 and as far as I’m aware still applies

All core full-time OPG duties should continue to be based on a 38 hour conditioned working week where operational hourage permits.

 In line with the terms of the Agreement, 35 hour contract holders (who can and are able to be aligned to cover a 38 hour duty) should be remunerated at single-rate overtime/scheduled attendance up to 38 hours, after which any additional hours will be paid at the appropriate overtime/scheduled attendance rate.

 If an individual who holds a 35 hour contract covers or commits to performing a 38 hour week core duty long-term, then either a variation in the contract should be agreed that covers the additional 3 hours, or alternatively the hours should be treated as scheduled attendance.
Colleagues are reminded that all matters relating to resourcing are proper to the IR Framework which includes the introduction and operation of the OPG 35 hour week duties.
Any enquiries in relation to this LTB should be addressed to the DGS(P) Department quoting reference 24000.

Yours sincerely,
Terry Pullinger Deputy General Secretary (Postal)

It’s these “variation in contract” employees who will
make up a large chunk of the 11,000

They have a 35 hour contract but with a “variation” to do full time hours which was the 38

This variation isn’t a permanent and I think this being made permanent and so sick and holiday pay will be aligned as such is what is in the pipeline

Not part timers on 29 or 30 hours who do regular overtime being given perm FT contract

I hope I’m wrong as I’m one of them

Had a new start saying he wasn’t gonna do his d2ds because he doesn’t get paid for them. I thought ah s**t here we go again… wasn’t getting involved in that argument today.

This has been discussed at length before but, 35 hours and upwards is fulltime. There are loads of variations but anything 35 hours and above is full time.

New contracts include more flexible hours for the business, mandatory Sunday working, lower hourly rate of pay, no ''Delivery Supplement'', no paid meal relief and are paid monthly rather than weekly
So if a part timer accepted this new contract, their rate of pay would go down? They would lose paid meal relief, have to work Sundays? What if they had over 20 years service? Would they also lose 2 weeks annual leave?

How stupid or desperate do RM think we are?
No. If you are currently part time and have your hours made up to full time, you will remain on your existing contract’s terms.
Not what our COM and his boss, and his bosses boss say. We have a revision coming soon, based around all partimers going full time, but ONLY if they move on to the new contracts

You forgot the randomised day off - which will never ever be a Saturday.
