A Written Statement?! How is a manager telling you to open an app on a company device an unreasonable request? From conversations with longstanding colleagues, it is attitudes and behaviours like these (displayed by a small but vocal minority) that have “ruined the company” and the “good old days” for all Old Guard employees.
One thing that cannot be denied about this company is : EVERY Duty, Delivery Office, Postie and Manager is DIFFERENT. No two are the same and they cover the whole spectrum from Very Good to Bloody Awful! :hmmmm

Smooth I have no idea about your world and you have none about mine. I'm not picking a fight, or trying to shout you down, because I come onto this forum for a good discussion (difficult to get sometimes I know).

I personally thought that a ''Reasonable Request'' from my DOM wasn't one. It was motivated by personal greed, for personal gain, and he lied about it! He was the one that could have let it go but decided to butt heads and eventually came off the worse.

In the same vein I know nothing of the Attitudes, or Experiences, of your ''Old Guard'' Colleagues. I would refute the claim that ''a small vocal minority have ruined the company and the good old days for all Old Guard Employees''. I think you'll find it boils down to Capitalist Greed. The Privatisation of Royal Mail in 2013 and the attack on wages and T&Cs by successive CEOs.

Unless of course that ''small vocal minority'' they were referring to was Adam Crozier, Moya Greene, Rico Back and Simon Thompson. :cuppa
Agree re the uniqueness of offices, walks, posties and managers — no doubt about that.

While I do respect your viewpoint and approach to debate, I do think you (and some other longstanding staff) might be blindsided re this. When I refer to Old Guard colleagues, I am not just referring to my immediate colleagues at my own office — I include my own experience and observations while working at 15+ different DOs during my time as a casual. This minority is present everywhere within RM that I have worked in. I am referring to the belligerence, the disrespect, the rudeness, the self-entitlement, the dictatorial way in which they speak to peers and managers.

Without casting aspersions or generalising, this “small but vocal minority” can nearly always be identified, since they nearly always are still wearing blue shirts and blue uniform — they likewise refuse to wear the “new” red uniform as that too is an unreasonable request for them. There are one or two exceptions but not many…

The my performance app is obviously linked to something regarding us clicking on it, is it a bonus? who cares, can they make you click on it? probably not but then again my argument for not clicking on it is i have enough to do every day without clicking on a app which holds nothing other than performance data on it, it doesn't aid me in my days work or be necessary for me to complete my days work so why go to it?
My manager does tell me to click on it and i tell him when i get a chance.
Much as some people think this job is just "pushing bits of paper through a door" ,it isn't, and involves a lot of crap tech, that is struggling to work most of the time, and the duties are too big with the lorries coming later and later........ do i need to keep going.
Pushing this tile is just a pain in the ass, but if you have time feel free.
Me....... i push it maybe once or twice a week if i remember and my manager says nothing until it gets to weeks and then he nearly pleads and seeing as how he's ok i usually will look at it.

Regarding the PDA data, it was initially suggested that data generated by PDA technology would not be used to track individuals or be used for individual performance management. It was mentioned in the agreement that the use of technology may increase levels of individual visibility and it was agreed that new technology is not being deployed for, or will be used as, a disciplinary tool.

In fact, in the 12 page Rebuilding Royal Mail framework agreement between EP Group and the CWU it states the following:

EP Group and CWU commit to pilot new ways of working, including mechanisms to allow postal workers to have more say over day-to-day operations and management of workload. This will include, but is not limited to, piloting a more supportive way of utilising the 'My Performance' application and
any performance data.

Our manager is now providing a visible list of names of staff member's who have failed to do a single doorstep scan. Does this not break the previous agreement that the Union had with RM that all individuals should have a right to privacy at work? Is what this manager doing by naming and shaming individuals in a section a "supportive way" of using the performance data? :hmmmm

The manager should not be doing that and the rep should make them remove the names of individuals. In fact, if I was in that office I would be putting in a grievance and encouraging anyone else named to do the same.

The previous agreement still stands because the new agreement with EP Group depends on the deal being finalised.

I'm not on the list although there have been times in the past when my PDA has conked out due to low battery, especially now that our PDAs are active from the moment we clock in and start scanning parcels in. It's not difficult to miss a scan on someone else's PDA due to it being difficult to read all the barcodes. I don't agree with taking photo's of the Tracked items, preferring instead to write them down and scan them in later.

I think our manager is under pressure from the boss regarding trust on the doorstep and is bending the rules a bit.

On a side note, I wonder if complaints and DORs have gone up as the amount of detail we’re recording for each package has increased. I suspect it’s counterintuitive but could be wrong.

Probably faster. It's embarassing how long I'm standing at the door waiting and waiting for the PDA to take the goddamn picture. I restart mine every morning so it's not that.
The machine stops.

No chance is that slower than writing down the tracked number and then putting them all in later

I didnt think we even had the choice not to take photos and do that

We clearly don't as when the customer gets a notification that their parcels have been delivered there will be no location shown nor a photo, if the customer then submits a DOR claim the business has zero evidence to refute the claim. Unless you have to take a photo in the dark using flash the PDA's are hardly that slow to take a photo. The mind boggles at somebody having to type in 50/100 numbers when they get back to the DO!!

:hmmmm
I took this to mean that certain OPGs were being Named & Shamed because they'd ''Missed'' a Single Doorstep scan. Not that they hadn't made a ''Single'' scan at all. :hmmmm

I suppose you could read it the other way but I to find it hard to believe there's OPGs out there not scanning anything at this late stage of the game. :cuppa

What I meant was when you can't actually use your PDA and have to use someone else's PDA later. What would you do in the meantime while you are walking round with Tracked parcels that need scanning? I don't agree with taking photo's of Tracked items using your own phone. I prefer to write them down and then scan them in later.

Oh I see what you mean now…… thanks for clearing that up. I agree about not using your phone to take photos of items on delivery, we’ve had managers telling staff to use their phone if the PDA packs up & I’ve always piped up that it shouldn’t happen mainly down to GDPR. If anything breaks privacy regs then surely it’s an individual having maybe a hundred or so private addresses of customers on their phone without consent.
