Re: VR in pilot offices
I think also this 'method change' is going to relate to how to deliver things on a 1st class and parcels day in a certain area.
Before, you'd send a HCT round a route with all mail, small packets etc, but on days when it's packets only with 1st class, it'll be driven round.
There will need to be a distinct 'A' and 'B' routes, clearly separated, as otherwise 2C every other day will quickly become every 4th day.
The only way I can see this working is to have an aisle in offices, one side A and one side B. On the first day, all of the 'A' frames, on the left need to be emptied and taken out for delivery, the 'B' frames on the right need to only have 2C left in them. Swap over the next day.
This is all in theory, as the second that the 'clear the tracked' order is given, then all bets are off.

Re: VR in pilot offices
What's the betting that at the end of the trial there will still be some offices that won't have major changes to their delivery structure.
There is no one plan which will fit all offices, rural and urban duties don't appear to make sense with the info we have at the moment.

Re: VR in pilot offices
Seeing a few issues with some of ur ideas.
Due to sickness we also fail mail on rural duties.?
Where 1 postie does all packets and parcels for 2 rural duties.
Saw someone mention 3 rural duties. Simply not possible.
Gonna be hard enough finding time to add the first class mail along side that.
Another issue i'm seeing u have 1 postie doing packets and parcels for 2 van shares and jumping between the 2.
That means the van share driver thats doing all the mail has double mail every single day.
Screw that. I would want a break by doing packets/parcels 1 day and double mail the next day.
Also keeps the driver on their own duty.

The only plan that would fit all offices is to go back to singleton duties. Every person responsible for between 700-1200 houses depending on if it's city, rural, urban etc. Split frame into A and B. Flip between A and B yourself.A2B wrote: ↑20 Dec 2024, 18:40What's the betting that at the end of the trial there will still be some offices that won't have major changes to their delivery structure.

I don’t know what kind of managers you have at yours but ours wouldn’t cope with what you’re suggesting here.Acca Dacca wrote: ↑20 Dec 2024, 18:09Not 4 walks a day between 2; 2 full walks per day between 2 and a third covering trackeds off the other 2Pidleypoo wrote: ↑20 Dec 2024, 17:57I don’t know why everyone is making it so complicated.
In our office it’s has been 1 delivery per day and the tracked off the other for about a year.
Even that hasn’t been doable most of the time and when you add in the 1st class letters as well as the tracked from the other pairing they’d need to make our deliveries smaller.
We also have dpr duties.
How some of you are getting 4 deliveries between 2 is beyond me.
Must have really small ones.
Postie 1
Postie 2
Postie 3
All get designated Walk A B C and D as their duties
Monday
Postie 1 and 2 do A and B van share
Postie 3 does Walk C and D Tracked solo van
Tuesday
Postie 1 and 2 do C and D
Postie 3 does Walk A and B Tracked
basically two people rotating four walks with a third person doing the trackeds off the 2 that arent getting 'full service' that day
So what would have been a 4 person job for those four walks before is now a 3 person job
They would just make 3 deliveries in to 2 surely and still have a pairing.

Re: VR in pilot offices
So when does the trial start and when does it end and when is a decision made about going ahead nationally or not?

Yes that makes complete sense, and would work.Perseus wrote: ↑20 Dec 2024, 18:55The only plan that would fit all offices is to go back to singleton duties. Re: VR in pilot offices
There aren’t going to be A frames and B frames. Each delivery office has a related MC. The MC will send out the mail to be delivered each day.
It is incumbent upon managers to find work for all staff, including non-drivers, during the pilot.
If it is a roaring success, the pilot offices will have an obvious to the eye excess of staff. VR will then be offered.
But this is not a great thing because it would be the beginning of a process of shedding 1000s of staff.

That would almost double the fleet and costs of maintenance and fuel etc also non drivers couldnt do that in DO's with no HCT dutiessindba wrote: ↑20 Dec 2024, 20:08Yes that makes complete sense, and would work.Perseus wrote: ↑20 Dec 2024, 18:55The only plan that would fit all offices is to go back to singleton duties. Re: VR in pilot offices
Is that set in stone? if that is the case and any of these offices doing the trial are anywhere near fully staffed it will instantly create an excess number of staff regardless of a manager trying to find work for people to do. Not unless they want to send people on a 10 mile walk or a very, very slow drive to deliver the handful of 1st class that come in for duties not getting 2nd class that day.Barnacle wrote: ↑20 Dec 2024, 20:31There aren’t going to be A frames and B frames. Re: VR in pilot offices
How can they trail this if it’s not been agreed yet by the regulator?
Or has it and I’ve missed the information.
I thought there were still discussions on if it would be Mail Drop on Saturday or alternate days for second class.

Re: VR in pilot offices
In the CWU brief it stated that the pilot offices would have excess staff, hence the enhanced VR terms in those pilot offices
