How far away are we from minimum wage ? Seems like a lot of hard work and body aches for the very little benefit.

If you are on a new contract then pretty damn close.

Minimum is currently £11.44 for 21 years and older but that increases to £12.21 April next year so only 3.5 or so months to go until our current new contract rate is only 33p more, maybe RM will have to 'harmonise' a bit harder to entice new staff.

Having said that a couple of our recent new starts copy some of the existing staff and come in early so they're probably effectively on minimum already and will be below it come April.

The low wage is the main reason why we can't retain staff, it's not rocket science as they come in and see the workload they soon pack it in and move to a much easier job for the same money.

The reason for having a higher than usual pay rate is to retain staff as it's worth their while putting up with the inconvenience of early mornings purely for the extra money.

National Minimum Wage (NMW) for anyone aged under 21 or an apprentice

So £534.48 Inc delivery supplement for 37 hours work or actually about 34 as we get paid breaks which in effect makes it even more, obviously goes downhill after that as the overtime rate is less plus delivery supplement stops after 37hrs.

Why do you have 2 separate delivery supplements?

Right so 534 divided by 37 hours, comes to around £14.43 an hour

Around £13.64PH without the supplement. So the actual hourly rate we are paid is s**t in reality because that's what the pen pushers are about. The delivery supplement is exactly that a supplement agreed by RM CWU for losing D2D/driving/early start allowances very poor wages in this day and age

I don't know, iirc it was explained why on here quite recently I'll see if I can find it.

Should the pension not b added on as well? Figured was on about 15.34 b for tax and pension.

What you have to factor in also is the fact it's almost impossible to get a Saturday off, can't book holidays when you want them, the toxic culture, the working in all weather's with inadequate or very poor PPE, the lack of opportunity to progress, the strain of walking for 5 hours+ on your body the list could go on then all of a sudden 20% above national minimum wage (for the old contracts) isn't all that appealing hence why so many are leaving for free without pay offs which in itself tells you all you need to know
