Wrong again. All new-contract posties can be — and are — required to work Sundays. We have three part-timers working Sunday. We also have other 40-hr posties who don’t work any Sundays as things stand.

A newbie, who until five minutes ago claimed to be a DPR driver, then they did collections. So you think ohhh it’s a daily collection route they’re doing, but then they claim to be a postie, who has found the time despite according to them, working a 40hr week, to go round the entire office asking everyone about their contracts?!

We had a newbie start on tuesday, 20 hr contract. He has been out over 10 hrs for 3 days running as he is on a van share with a non driver trying to learn as he goes. So a 50 hr + week. Madness.

Nobody really is wrong or right. Not all contracts being given out are FT but any FT contracts being given out are 40 hours, as pointed out. They don’t issue FT 37 hour contracts to new starters, since the agreement. Again, I can only comment on my experience. I’ve not visited every office in the country and taken a poll.

It creates a mess though, as I mentioned, when van-shares can be, during the quieter months, 35 hour workers being paired with 40 hour workers. Again, that might be a ‘my office problem’ as the rounds are setup to be achievable on the shorter contract hours, so folks on longer get back then have to hang around doing nothing for an hour.

Also, unless they have a fixed day off, their daily hours can be altered to fit the working week.

Yes, I do, don’t I? It’s handy for putting people like you straight, don’t you think? FYI - we have long had a paperless house where 99% of paper is scanned to PDF and then shredded. It means I can instantly trawl my Dropbox and put you straight by producing any evidence needed!

Is it not a sad indictment of how far down the rung RM has gone that we the employees are debating what is/isn't full time, and 40 hr contracts with no paid breaks or perks, no matter how you try to put lipstick on it, is in anyway comparable to the old contracts.
In fact it's a disgrace it's legal at all, perhaps we need to give the newbies a break and push harder for equality.
