You’re mistaking me with someone wealthy. If pensions were means tested, it would be the wealthy who would not receive a pension. Not the JAM.milly wrote: ↑06 Jul 2024, 20:35You no doubt have a Royal Mail pension, why do you need a state pension as well?
In the same way as child benefit is now means tested - far as I am aware.

Of course it would start with the wealthy, and then they would work down to anybody with a company or private pension.Barnacle wrote: ↑06 Jul 2024, 21:12You’re mistaking me with someone wealthy. So what? It would be based on your wealth. How much dosh you have available to you. If you have a massive final salary pension, why the heck do you need the pittance state pension?milly wrote: ↑06 Jul 2024, 21:15Of course it would start with the wealthy, and then they would work down to anybody with a company or private pension.Barnacle wrote: ↑06 Jul 2024, 21:12You’re mistaking me with someone wealthy. Correct, many people have paid nothing in at all and still receive a state pension.Barnacle wrote: ↑06 Jul 2024, 21:291. They’ll set an income level as they did when they capped child benefit. If your income is over a certain amount you don’t receive it. It’s straightforward.milly wrote: ↑06 Jul 2024, 21:34Correct, many people have paid nothing in at all and still receive a state pension.Barnacle wrote: ↑06 Jul 2024, 21:291. I suppose they could say if your company pension is higher than the state pension then you receive nothing.Barnacle wrote: ↑06 Jul 2024, 21:42They’ll set an income level as they did when they capped child benefit. I agree with means testing because there is no reason why someone wealthy should receive a state pension.

A final salary pension is only good if you're on a decent wage.Barnacle wrote: ↑06 Jul 2024, 22:15milly wrote: ↑06 Jul 2024, 21:47I suppose they could say if your company pension is higher than the state pension then you receive nothing.Barnacle wrote: ↑06 Jul 2024, 21:42They’ll set an income level as they did when they capped child benefit. Just because you have a final salary pension doesn't make you rich.

I wonder if Barnacle is stating future LP policy in that if you receive a FS pension you don't need a state pension, or is just talking irrational nonsense for the sake of it?
Just think, all those RM employees being denied the state pension that they've paid in for. Should go down well.

You have to be earning over £40,000 pa for child benefit to be impacted, and over £60,000 pa for it to be withdrawn altogether, so there is no reason to imagine that the level of income you would need to reach before having your state pension withdrawn wouldn’t be equally generous.milly wrote: ↑06 Jul 2024, 22:26A final salary pension is only good if you're on a decent wage.Barnacle wrote: ↑06 Jul 2024, 22:15milly wrote: ↑06 Jul 2024, 21:47I suppose they could say if your company pension is higher than the state pension then you receive nothing.Barnacle wrote: ↑06 Jul 2024, 21:42They’ll set an income level as they did when they capped child benefit. The answer to that is within the reply already given.
