RMCtv : Take a break - using your carry-over leave-or lose it

Taking a break from work is vital for our health and wellbeing.

To make sure everyone is taking the breaks they need, last September we introduced our new requirement that all colleagues use all their carry-over leave by 31 August each year. If it’s not used by this date, and an exception has not been submitted, it will be lost.

You can carry up to five days (or equivalent for part-timers) from one annual leave year to the next. Exceptions do apply to this process - see the annual leave factsheet for more information.

You can find out how much carry-over leave you have for 2024/25 on PSP or the People App.

Between Monday 15 April – Sunday 12 May, your managers will authorise any carry-over leave you have in PSP and as part of this process, PSP will show when your carry-over leave needs to be used by.

In July, a new process in PSP will enable managers to submit exceptions to use carry-over leave beyond Saturday 31 August. Details on this process will be provided closer to the time, but examples of where exceptions may apply can be found in the annual leave factsheet.

Speak to your manager to get your carry-over leave booked before Saturday 31 August 2024 to make sure you don’t miss out.

What happens to OPGs who have hundreds and hundreds of annual leave hours carried over from the last 10/15 years of understaffing then? Is that still classed as carried over in 23/24?

Looks like RM are purging all owed hours now. A claw-back of favours given to Management by OPGs if you will.

I've seen use it or lose on here but surely you can never lose annual leave. They would have to pay it if you can't take it wouldn't they?

Again with the I can't be arsed to source everything right now, but yes, they can delete annual leave above statutory according to contract without issue, and statutory can be deleted within limits.

the simplest rules is they they must give you opportunity to take it, if they say no to every request for 11 months in a row, they cannot delete it, it's contractual and not your fault they can't find the time to spend it. If you never engage with them to find opportunity to spend it over significant lengths of time (This is largely form covid times!) they can delete it if you haven't asked to spend it.

As I understand it, we've actually been given a little bit more than the legal minimum here (I think mostly because SAP's rollover system is s**t) so use it or lose it is true right now, and you should be sending blank "ASAP any day" letter right the f**k now if you have leave over the 1 week carry over RM has decided you can keep. It really doesn't matter if you don't want x day off, it's a day off paid, or you work and get nothing.

the only time they really have to *Pay* Annual Leave, is if you earn more than you spend before you leave the business, whichever route that may be,.

Exactly. If you waste your first absence you will be screwed if you are genuinely ill in the next year.
