Annual leave
I've 49.69 hours to use up by end of August, do I have to use them all before this deadline ,I'd rather use odd days around long weekends, can I still carry a few days over to use after August if I wish or could I use a few days and get paid for the others instead ,any reps or anyone else on here know my options thanks .

Re: Annual leave
Without spending hours hunting down the specifics, the way I understand it is those holidays over "cap" for carry over must be *booked* by the end of august. You don't need to actually have the holiday before then, you must just have spent it.
If you're worried about carryover loss, give your manager a letter (keep a copy) with something like what follows:
"I wish to use up all of my carry-over holiday so it is not lost. Please assign me any date available at the earliest opportunity. I would prefer x, y and z, but any other days off will do if these are not available."
They must find somewhere. It might not be what you want, but if you end up with every Tuesday off for 5 weeks, at least you get the payment and the time off, even if it isn't ideally placed to go for a week in Norway.
If they still say "nope no space" or some s**t, move on to union reps or ACAS in that order. You must be allowed to spend the holidays, they can't just refuse them and make you lose them.

Re: Annual leave
I've seen use it or lose on here but surely you can never lose annual leave. They would have to pay it if you can't take it wouldn't they?

Re: Annual leave
Again with the I can't be arsed to source everything right now, but yes, they can delete annual leave above statutory according to contract without issue, and statutory can be deleted within limits.moonjaguar wrote: ↑06 Apr 2024, 18:56I've seen use it or lose on here but surely you can never lose annual leave. the simplest rules is they they must give you opportunity to take it, if they say no to every request for 11 months in a row, they cannot delete it, it's contractual and not your fault they can't find the time to spend it. If you never engage with them to find opportunity to spend it over significant lengths of time (This is largely form covid times!) they can delete it if you haven't asked to spend it.

As I understand it, we've actually been given a little bit more than the legal minimum here (I think mostly because SAP's rollover system is s**t) so use it or lose it is true right now, and you should be sending blank "ASAP any day" letter right the f**k now if you have leave over the 1 week carry over RM has decided you can keep. It really doesn't matter if you don't want x day off, it's a day off paid, or you work and get nothing.
the only time they really have to *Pay* Annual Leave, is if you earn more than you spend before you leave the business, whichever route that may be,.

Re: Annual leave
Although I've recently posted this on another thread I thought it was worth reposting.
From the people app in January 2024; (Verbatim)
Annual Leave - Taking breaks from work
Taking a break from work is vitally important to your health & wellbeing
Employees can carry over (c/o) up to 5 days leave (or contractual equivalent) each year.
Above this requires written permission from your manager.
Those with excessive c/o leave need to reduce this in line with our policy. From 01/04/24, employees need to reduce their c/o leave by 31/08/24 as agreed with their manager.
If you carried over less than three weeks into 2023/24 you need to book and use it by 31/08/24.
Exceptionally, if you carried over more than three weeks into 2023/24 you need to book and use it by 31/08/25
Unless there is an exceptional reason remaining c/o leave will be lost (see fact sheet) This approach then applies annually.

This is something that really bugs me, especially over on Facebook with the ‘my manager says there’s not enough leave spaces’ gang. No matter how many times I tell them to put it in writing and mention their right to have leave, they still say ‘Just asked the manager again and he says there’s nothing.’
People are walking very quickly towards the deadline where they’ll see their leave disappear.
It’s incredibly simple; Put in requests via the app, give your manager a letter demanding any slots, and as a Brucie Bonus mention ACAS.
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.

Re: Annual leave
I’m hearing different things on this. I was told by our staffing guy all leave had to be booked by 5th April if it wasn’t he would allocate leave for us. He been told this decision is from the top.

Re: Annual leave
I have a number of hours leave carried over, however, it is less than a full days leave (5 hours, 59 mins when my days are 6 hours 40 mins). Wonder if I can go into work for 41 minutes. Of course, they wouldn’t have this problem if they hadn’t clawed back A/L from the strikes.

Re: Annual leave
Without getting into too much detail, I believe there is an error with psp (the software where leave is booked) ATM.
Hopefully it'll be rectified soon. If it's not then lots of people will lose leave!
The agreed approach with "use it or lose it" is that when you book leave carry over is used first, then any purchased, then your entitlement.
So imagine I have:
1 week of carry over
2 weeks of purchase
4 weeks of entitlement...
As long as I have at least one week booked between April and August 24 I should not be at risk of losing my carried over leave (because I've booked a week with it).
Then I have the whole leave year to use up my purchased and entitlement of leave.
Thing is that at the moment the people app is incorrectly showing leave in the "carried over" column when it should be in the "entitlement" one.
I spoke to HR the other day, and they confirmed that this is the agreed process and that the people app/psp should right itself soon.
Hope that makes some sort of sense...
