Would be good if RM gave examples of some situations where they could apply exemptions in order to see if an employee could make it work.

I think we know why there doesnt seem to be any that exist nor any desire from the company to be pro-active in the process to help employees despite the masses of bullshit literature showing them how to apply.

Long for the day someone is appointed to the role of CEO who can come in with some proactive, dynamic, forward thinking who actually motivates you to work and doesn’t recycle the same doom and gloom “change” rhetoric that frontline staff have been forced to endure for 3 decades whilst watching dozens of executives dance off into the sunset with millions of pounds in their pockets.

You should be entitled as from tomorrow in England, Scotland and Wales to at least one week's unpaid leave a year

Can you not make medical appointments an hour later?
Never known hospital appointments to have such flexibility.
Exactly this. For the record, my seriously ill wife has frequent medical appointments, for which I have provided proof. It's.not that easy to request any appointment to within a specific time frame unfortunately

Sorry to hear that.

If RM are inflexible and every appointment is within 40 minutes of you finishing work at the moment, maybe speak to your consultant?

Or maybe ask if there are late parcel / collection shifts available so you can attend medicals in the morning?

RM are arseholes, but they're usually good about these things in my experience. How have they been before the later starts came in?

I’ve outlined the exceptions accepted in my office above. I think the exceptions most likely to be accepted are those where the finish times are only 15 minutes later and were already close to that 3pm finish. It meant that folks fetching their kids only needed to ask for a 10 minute reduction on the longest day of the week. That is more easily managed.

Offices finishing after 4pm where employees need at least an hour reduction are definitely going to be rejected unfortunately.

Bordering on discrimination.

Yes, but that sums up the entire company. Each office has their own rules and methods. It is partly why we are in a mess generally. If successful offices were held up and used as a template, to improve struggling ones, we would all be better off. There is no reason they can’t.

Just out of interest how much is your office moving ? And when you requested an earlier finish was there anything you could think of suggesting to enable that, or are they just stubbornly refusing.
Our office is moving 60 minutes. I offered to compromise and move 20 minutes, which would still allow time for hospital, medical appointments etc
I hoped for.reciprocated compromise but was given the standard response of NO!
Ah, have they indicated how long prior to starting time the mail will arrive, I suppose if it's more than 40 minutes you could offer to start early on ips.

My thoughts exactly but unfortunately no further information has been forthcoming. The "powers that be" do like to keep us in the dark until the last possible moment.

In the interests of balance and fairness, I do have to say that RM have always accommodated my medical requests, with little fuss. Until 15 months ago. Since then, they've been downright nasty and vindictive :thumbdown

When has balance and fairness ever been part of the RM agenda though?

Yeah there's no way they'll be aligning the start time to coincide exactly with the mail arrival time that would be impractical there's got to be some scope for starting before official start time, at our place it's the brown nosed "Phg" who opens up but as you say if you've offered to start on early ips then you've given a solid example of how you can be flexible without having a detrimental affect to the "business requirements" bollocks that they like to quote.

Some people could start earlier.
That doesn't explain how they could finish earlier.

Yeah, I thought that myself after I wrote it, that's where it gets tricky and maybe goes into the realms of having duties with less outdoor work which is where it will fall flat on its face unless management are able/willing to try and accommodate, I suppose the default option for them to take would be that it's much easier for them to just say no we can't do it.

So yes in theory starting ips or whatever indoor work could work as an option for someone to stay on the same hours but finish a bit earlier but in reality maybe not.
