So if a Lady joins on new rubbish contract working with a guy on old contract, doing the same job.

Then surely that’s sex discrimination
How??
Because it would be the same if a guy started on the new contract.

Hi Everyone.
I’ve been a postal working since November last year so on the new contract with the reduced hourly rate of £12.29.
I’m pretty sure when I went through the process of getting the job someone told me the pay goes up £1 a hr after a year of employment.
Can someone confirm please.
Thanks.
Nope, your new rate in April will be £12.54 an hour. 2% increase.
A extra £30 a month

it “did” go up £1 hr after a 12 months on the old contract.

i Suspect your “new” cheap body contract won’t.
Quite a divided pay and benefit structure compared to the old contract.
Struggling to survive on the new contract tbh!
I think companies like RM are going to have to stop telling you you can’t work anywhere else because pay just isn’t cutting it.

No it's not.

It is legal to discriminate between employees who are different contracts.

It's illegal to discriminate between employees in protected characteristics who are on the same contract.

In this instance, a new employee hired after April 23 will be shat on without discrimination.

I agree about equal pay for everyone, I didn't even know before I started that people were on different rates per hour. I get paid £1.10 per hour less than my work partner doing exactly the same job. Found this link that states it doesn't matter what gender your are either and that it's against the law etc etc.... Penny for your thoughts?

I'm no legal expert but the loophole that Royal Mail are using to try and justify two employees doing the same job but on different pay is that new starts are still being paid 10% above the market average?
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

I think their argument is also that ALL new starts are paid the same rate and then have their pay increased after a certain period, a year (?), to bring them in line with fellow workers of the same grade.

As someone on a new-style contract, I hope this is true, but my contract doesn’t mention pay parity with fellow workers on old contracts after a year.

Your hourly rate should equalise. If it doesn’t, that’s an issue to raise with the union in the first instance.
But make sure you are comparing apples with apples first - some new contracts have supplements included within the hourly rate and visa versa.

I'd like this to be true but I can't find any evidence to suggest it either way.

The new contracts do not mention it and they are based on 40 hour at £24k pro-rata.

Ordinarily I'd be expecting the contract to explicitly state that after 1 year continuous service that the salary will rise to some new level.

Can anyone provide documentation to show this is the case?

You’re right. So if pay is not equal for equal work, that is against employment law and the union should be made to look into it as a first step.

The union are looking into it, but there’s more chance of me landing on Mars than RM rectifying this nonsense.
The crap contracts were brought in during the dispute, the union did nothing then, so dont expect anything to change. All contracts in the pay offer go up by a whopping 2% in April. That’s all you’re getting. :thumbdown

I’ve just checked my contract which is not a new contract but is post sell-off, and it does not mention pay increasing after 6 months or a year, but my pay did increase.

It does refer to national agreements which form part of the contract of employment but can be viewed separately by asking HR. So mention of pay rates must be in them.
