The local post office doesn’t even take stuff in for people unless it has been assigned a local collect item so why would you drive to a corner shop that might be a mile away and leave flowers there then drive back and post a card to say where you’ve left them?

If you hitting 99%+ first time delivery is there any benefit in real terms other than a good review on pda like giving a kid a gold sticker on a star chart on the fridge for tidying their room etc? BASICALLY IS THERE ANY £ incentive or just a gold sticker no one cares about?
No £ incentive whatsoever. No gold stickers either.
What’s the message we got this morning about “flowers” in the “my notes” part on the app.. it’s a joke treating us like kids.
There should be a pay incentive or nobody will care.
I’m sure they said in our WTLL that the My Notes section is where customer feedback will appear. Have you perhaps 739’d some perishable flowers when the customer wanted them left in a safe place? Not casting aspersions, just wondering…
very few safeplaces on my delivery, remember secure, out of sight and undercover not behind a plant pot on a door step, bin, under the car and my favourite is when they say in the porch and its a canopy, ive been telling everyone to save their preferences on the app and they are responsible and guess what they dont want to,in my years of experience card them.
A big section of my walk is an area with zero safe place options and you would not knock a neighbour. Supposing someone had flowers, I had to card them and as a consequence they gave me negative feedback via the app: it is my argument that that negative feedback ought not to remain on the app because it is just a customer whining, I would have simply followed procedure so why should I have a black mark on the app?
It isn’t a “whining customer” though. And excuse my perhaps ignorance or lack of knowledge, but why wouldn’t you knock a neighbour?

A “safe place” is also subjective rather than objective, no? Your milk delivery is safe enough on a doorstep, your new iPad delivery definitely isn’t.
It is a ‘whining customer’ when the only crime you have committed is being unable to leave their flowers because of the neighbourhood they live in.
You wouldn’t knock a neighbours door in certain areas because the parcel will not be seen again, or the neighbours are drug addicts/violent thugs etc. Not everywhere is leafy and lovely.
Over the garden fence? Local shopkeeper? Estate cleaner? I live on a council estate myself. While some people living on our estate are drug addicts and thugs, don’t tar us/them all with the same brush! As the local postie, you will have knowledge of who can be entrusted with Doris’s flowers until she gets back from work later.
Card them everyday of the week, you want flowers see a local florist.

................
1. I've been bitten by a dog that flew out of a neighbours door when I 'knocked a neighbour' - so never again with a neighbour with dog.
2. In several of our areas there are large workplaces that have a lot of night shift workers that live locally - would you want to be woken up to take delivery for next doors squeaky dog toy from China that won't fit through the neigbours letterbox?

Listen to what i said ,safeplace - secure out of sight and undercover, there are very few of them ,neighbours at work or refuse because id be knocking on their door everyday, if they dont like it go on the app and put in their preferred location takes all responsibility away from me,if they dont like it dont order it or use the app simple or else i'll carry on carding,(or of course unless my manager signs a letter to say i can leave it anywhere i want.)
Exactly this. We got told today that complaints are through the roof due to doorstepping. If people aren’t in for their parcels then this isn’t my fault and if there isn’t a safe place then back to the office it goes.

Maybe if more of us did that then the callers office would need to open for longer.

We all seem to agree over not door stepping and its wrong so if the customer isnt in the parcel should go back so why the hell are we being judged on 1st time deliveries now on the my performance app.
The only way to get that figure up is by door stepping!!!!

Exactly. It’s a pointless nonsense to award us a gold stamp for 🙄

Exactly ,the company are saving money while always saying its the postmans fault, please people do the job properly stop doorstepping ,drive slowly as they want you to do its the only way to stop this bullying and harassment because the union wont help us.

The run up to Christmas especially really hit home to me how much I despise and despair at two of rm's recent s**t ideas, firstly redelivery I end up trying neighbours just to avoid having to bring the item back the following day when they're still not in, for example I get on with my neighbours but even so I'd rather not have someone knocking on my door when I'm not at work asking me to take their parcels in, a lot of the folk who are in are working from home and it becomes apparent they're getting pissed off by knocking them with something for one of their neighbours.

Secondly callers office, surely the jewel in our crown advantage, yes I fully get it's not cost effective to have someone sat there watching YouTube videos waiting for a customer but come on, the DO should always have someone in the building who can respond to a bell ringing.

The old system was fine, it was unique, try once, leave a card then it was up to the recipient to either come and get it or arrange redelivery either when they might be in or to a nominated neighbour or to their shed.

Rant over.

Get to know your customers folks. Especially those who get parcels every day. I don’t doorstep parcels, but never bring back more than 1-2 and frequently get over 100 tracked a day. Storage boxes, under cover in back gardens, sheds, greenhouses. If it is in a waterproof bag, clothes get dropped over gates if they are locked. There is a bit of common sense needed when it comes to such matters, especially when you now have photographic proof of leaving an item. 0 complaints here in all the years of doing this.

That said, I *never* sign for recorded deliveries for any customer, as some here still claim to do.

Not patronising at all. Just helpful advice to give you more of a chance at earning that gold star.

It depends on how you read it I guess. If you realise it is good advice you should have been following all along, it can be seen that way.
