Do you think anyone is going to have a quiet word with him and highlight that his attitude has changed and become a problem since taking on the coaching role? For example, and without arguing, why not plan to talk to the guy when it's just the two of you and state that the relationship in the workplace has become more difficult? Ask him if he has noticed the change too?

Maybe not. Maybe there will be weeks or months of snide comments, eye-rolling, tongue biting, go-slows, and complaining to anyone, ANYONE! in the office... accept the person causing the upset. All the time screaming inside your head "why doesn't he change his attitude/approach!?!" Maybe he does not know nor see it himself. Or maybe he does see it and he's worried, but he is ignoring it because he doesn't know what to do either. He thinks he is losing friends and it's bothering him a lot.

Yeah, maybe this new role is a full on power trip for the guy and his ego thinks his role is now way more superior. Or maybe he is feeling new pressures from management and he is just inept and clumsy in how he goes about asking people to do something.

Why not talk to the guy on the quiet and without ganging up on him before it goes too far and ask him what new pressure he feels since taking on the role. Ask if he thinks the role is challenging.

In the black and white "them and us" (workers and management) world he's unfortunately floating in the void between the two and perhaps encountering a lot of problems with little support from either side.

You want to fix something? I'd suggest going to the source and talking it out. Separate the person from the role. Talk about the role and not the actual person doing it.
Would love to have a quiet word with him, problem is he has past form and would probably try to turn it around and say you were bullying and harassing him, he's actually a dangerous character who would quite happily get you the sack if he thought he could, so no i won't be having a quiet word.

I feel your frustration Scotty
Used to see it all the time in the Forces. Give someone a promotion and the power just goes to their head :no no

"If you want to test a man's character-give him power"Abraham Lincoln ....... Which also applies to incompetent managers! :Very Happy

Ours has been getting the allowance (£50 a week I believe) for years and I think the last REAL work they did was explaining the PDA when it was first introduced! :left:

It annoys me that if they're the WPC why aren't they actually "Training" anyone to be a Postie? Whenever a Replacement turns up the Duty Holders are the ones who train them on each duty they're covering. Perhaps OPGs should be given a payment for each Replacement they Train? :hmmmm

TBH I'd rather they did away with the allowance than give it to these pseudo-managers..... brown nosing their way along on their own power trip! :cuppa

I'm sure it's normal behavior from workplaces coaches, ours tells us what we should be doing & then runs to the office to tell gaffa what your doing & not doing, proper full on w4nker.
