I've worked for Royal Mail for nearly 37 years on delivery. I just work the hours i'm paid for, there's no hassle or stress. I've certainly never been or seen any bullying from any manager in all that time. There's no doubt there's no organisation whatsoever nowadays in managing the company, but thats not our problem. Just do your own job.

I've worked for Royal Mail for 32 years. When I worked in Delivery there was constant bullying from managers and my line manager tried to bully me.
I also saw constant bullying from managers to other colleagues.
When I first started and for a few years after, the old style managers were great. If you f****d up you would get an absolute blocking, and then it would be forgotten.

There is constant bullying and managers trying to cajole staff into taking the work. When I started we hardly ever needed to use the overrunning procedure because there was more than enough time to do the job. However, bigger duties meant more work to do and less time to do it and many managers often resort to bullying to get that work completed. I distinctly recall staff being pulled into the managers office because of it.

Now that Royal Mail is privatised, its job is to make as much money as possible and deliver returns to its investors. Delivery spans have increased from three and a half hours to around five hours plus and fewer posties are doing more work than ever before. Increased automation is driving many of the changes as the RM board seek further detrimental changes to our terms and conditions with less sick pay, later shift times and flexible and Sunday working.

And In my opinion it doesn't really matter who you vote for because Keir Starmer appears to be on the side of capitalism. His objectives have noticeably changed from the start of his tenure of having socialist ideals about the common ownership of rail, mail, energy and water to one of having a genuine partnership working with businesses and trade unions for the national interest.

But the Post Office scandal and all the bullying and cronyism that went on was with a state owned company. So what went wrong there ?

Without dragging this thread off-topic, the Post Office scandal obviously wouldn't have happened if the POL, Fujitisu and some of the lawyers involved hadn't lied and covered things up for so long.

If there was ever any scandal in our company it would be that the company have and still continue to deliberately not deliver on its legal obligations regarding the USO. Royal Mail have already had Select Committees by parliament and got rid of Simon Thompson on the strength of it. But they have said that they have been losing money doing this and that is why they continue to push for a day off delivering letters.....

I can honestly say i've never had any problems, but i work in a small rural office.

Absolutely parallels. Much of this was related to cutting costs for eventual privitisation. There was a definite attempt to get rid of long term servers as these would be due the highest levels of redundancy pay. Those employees who gave service as union representatives and did not cosy up to management were also in their firing line. Those who refused to do overtime, of which I was one, were also bullied and harrassed and I would gladly sign a witness statement if there was ever an enquiry or documentary series on T/v regarding the management of front line staff during this period.
