5 days a week letters

If the uso is changed too five days letters but seven days parcels how many jobs lost?.Can’t work it out as about 15,000 have gone this past year.

A job is six days a week so one day letters gone per week how many jobs?.

Won’t be happening any time soon , needs a change of legislation which will not be forthcoming until after the general election late next year , so 2025 at the earliest in my opinion and that’s being optimistic.

You will hear lots of rumours of when we will go down to 5 day delivery, followed by 3 day etc etc... but truthfully who knows when it will/could happen, even if it needs a law change to get it legally i am sure there are all sorts of ways to get what they want, especially if they are losing as much as they say they are.
As to how many posties would lose their job... i fancy very few, any voluntary pay offs will be grabbed like gold-dust by anyone who can get it.
By this stage with another 20/30k out the door they will suddenly realise they haven't enough left to cover the 7 day parcels.

I will say to the people wanting to leave, yous should be applying for jobs now. Hanging on for VR is doing yourself no favours.

It's difficult to speculate on the numbers of jobs that might be lost if we have a 5 day USO. There's no doubt that RM obviously see a reduced USO as a way of reducing head-counts and costs further but we are currently failing the USO now on a 6 day week. That would imply that we actually need more staff, not less. However, If RM keep pushing up the price of postage and making delivering letters unattractive then that might not be the case.

But overall employee numbers are not significant. Whilst thousands of full-time workers have left the business in the last few years, RM are creating many new jobs - but they are mainly part-time or Sunday workers. So whilst there could be a similar number of staff in the future, the business would still make savings by having staff employed on less hours as well different terms and conditions.

That seems to be the problem at RM now, ever since the phantom shares rip-off.

I remember folk taking VR back in the day and cashing in their original "phantom shares"

Plus how many will be gone by April - later starts and finishes?

Whereupon Uber-isation will be the only way they can resource at short notice and low cost. The days when we had old-timers on standby to cover the odd cut-off bag, remaining specials, or rarely a whole unmanned walk are now remembered as the apex of imperial extravagance.
