Re: Pay parity
wrong the paid breaks are already in the 37 hours and they can take away the delivery supplement at anytime so ill stick with the £12.74 ,that's what happens when a corrupted union agree to a well below inflation pay rise it wont be long before we all apply for cleaning jobs.ted_e_bear wrote: ↑22 Nov 2023, 16:24Agreed, as far as I'm concerned my hourly rate is the amount I'm paid divided by the amount of hours I have to work to get it so really if you take paid breaks into the equation we're actually on around £15.40 per hour.clashcityrocker wrote: ↑22 Nov 2023, 15:49Why isn't it part of the hourly rate?guardianangel wrote: ↑22 Nov 2023, 15:29
Take off the delivery supplement which is not part of your hourly rate works out to £12.74

Re: Pay parity
Exactly ,i dont get some of these doughnuts if it was part of your hourly rate there would be no need to call it delivery supplement or even have it on your payslip, its only a matter of time before this is attacked .

Re: Pay parity
It is set in stone, part of the pay deal which will be renegotiated from April 2025. We got 2% in 2022, 6% in 2023 and lump sums, then a further 2% in April 2024. As others have stated, its still way above minimum wage as long as you are not on the new crap contracts.norris9 wrote: ↑22 Nov 2023, 12:07Is that set in stone, as in - is this all we are getting or it's the bare minimum?
If we get 2% in April when minimum wage employees are getting 10%..... the exodus will increase.... but it seems Royal Mail probably want this, they don't care about the service, they will run it down to the ground even further if it means they save money on wages.

Re: Pay parity
And that’s the reason of this thread. What should the union do about the “crap contracts.” It seems that our colleagues here aren’t affected by them they don’t give a toss!!!

Did you even realise what was in the deal before voting on it? Re: Pay parity
It’s not a case of not giving a toss, I personally was angry and still am, that the new contracts were steamrollered through by RM and the union were unable to stop them. The union are trying to bridge the gap apparently, but don’t hold your breath as they appear to be in a weaker position these days.Jantyc0611 wrote: ↑22 Nov 2023, 19:17And that’s the reason of this thread. Re: Pay parity
Having purposely sacrificed new entrants’ Ts and Cs of employment, the CWU now finds it impossible to recruit as union members the literal army of new starters taken on since Nov 2022 – a problem I don’t ever see changing. Plus, of course, there is a sizeable minority even among longstanding staff who are disenchanted by the union and who have cancelled membership since your Yes vote. That’s without mentioning leavers, etc. Some of us are even morally opposed to the whole union concept – myself included.

Re: Pay parity
It all comes down to what Jantyc says
It's all about new entrants, I've got my own side job but like working winter at RM, there are a few people like me at our office and none will touch a full time job but happy with agency and I'm happy it's tax free for around 3 months
Issue is nobody of sound mind will take a 25 hour contract at £1 above minimum wage with weekend work or few people that will stick it. Office I'm in has about 10 vacancies and staff are leaving quicker than they can find new starts.
Looks like dumping Saturday delivery of letters will be needed very soon.

Re: Pay parity
You hit the nail on the head Jimmy. It will be even worse when the new minimum wage comes into effect in April. Anyone on a new entrant contract will be on 85p an hour more. Good luck keeping any new start then. The union need to step up and grow a pair. Instead of burying their heads in the sand. I asked a union rep the other day had they any plans in combating the contracts. They just said that it was Royal Mails doing and casually walked off. I suppose as long as the CWU are cushy screw everyone else.

Re: Pay parity
Those on newer contracts will get the 2% increase, so they will be on £12.54 in April. It’s not acceptable though.Jantyc0611 wrote: ↑23 Nov 2023, 07:43You hit the nail on the head Jimmy. Re: Pay parity
I know it's part of the reached agreement but can an amendment or emergency alteration be made to the pay rise in April to endorse a little more financial incentive to new starter contracts...because surely Royal Mail know that they aren't going to stay long with such a small gap between their wage and minimum? They need to start getting their thinking caps on because unless they get that reduction in the 6 day USO to support their staff reduction exercise they are going to be left high and dry in last mile delivery.SMS1969 wrote: ↑23 Nov 2023, 08:44Those on newer contracts will get the 2% increase, so they will be on £12.54 in April. Re: Pay parity
Exactly they are pretty much doing what they want in our office now and not a rep in sight or any comms from above, you could pretty much say the union is dead.SMS1969 wrote: ↑22 Nov 2023, 20:01It’s not a case of not giving a toss, I personally was angry and still am, that the new contracts were steamrollered through by RM and the union were unable to stop them. Re: Pay parity
Agency bods getting £13.37 at least and paid breaks. Probably get cut as soon as their shift finishes on December 23rd… Still, wouldn’t fancy being a new starter coming in now.
