Minimum wage going up to £11.44 an hour just announced. Cant see many takers for £12.29 on a Sunday or any other day of the week for that matter. The chancellor just made RM’s recruitment problem worse.
Just saw that and thought the same. It's much easier to move on from Royal Mail now. That is another big increase in the minimum wage.
What are the chances we get the same % or better rise next April? I don't have much hope as Royal Mail have tried to stifle our income in recent times.
It is certainly easier to move on if you are a new starter. However anyone still getting legacy payments is making significantly more than the minimum wage per hour and are also enjoying more paid holiday than you will get elsewhere, not to mention the pension side of things.
New starters though are really not incentivised to stay. Unless the CWU deliver on the promise made in the agreement to make up these contracts to match existing staff, then yeah I can see the turnover of staff being high among new sign ups. The CWU are screwing themselves if not. A major fumble by them frankly.
Our rise in April is 2%. This was agreed in the deal of the century.
Is that set in stone, as in - is this all we are getting or it's the bare minimum?
If we get 2% in April when minimum wage employees are getting 10%..... the exodus will increase.... but it seems Royal Mail probably want this, they don't care about the service, they will run it down to the ground even further if it means they save money on wages.

The thing is.....the guys/girls who have been here longer also disappear out the door regularly.....so that means we are always getting an increase in new starts on the lower £ contracts. I wonder what % per year of staff that have the better/older contracts leave each year.
Royal Mail will keep the crap increases in pay until the minimum wage catches up and they will then be on a par with all the other Couriors.
Then after all the full timers leave, they will have all employees on zero contracts and with them all working sundays.
Job done and the CWU will be no more with no clout for RM employees

Take off the delivery supplement which is not part of your hourly rate works out to £12.74
Why isn't it part of the hourly rate?
Agreed, as far as I'm concerned my hourly rate is the amount I'm paid divided by the amount of hours I have to work to get it so really if you take paid breaks into the equation we're actually on around £15.40 per hour.

Why would you take that off? It is money you earn. You might as well add your paid leave on top then if we are working it out like that. As mentioned, it is way more than earning minimum wage. For us. New starters are certainly closer to it.
