The postal services in both France and Germany still deliver letters on a Saturday and the posties still deliver on bicycles.

Should’ve happened 10 years ago , letters have been declining whether you want to admit it or not .

You'd think no office would be failing mail every week then right?

The number of people processing and delivering the mail has reduced at the same rate if not proportionally a higher rate.

If RM cant get the mail delivered as it stands everyday over six days what chance do they have getting it all delivered over five?

They are deliberately failing deliveries in order to hurry up this process, I’m not saying it will improve the service necessarily but there’s no doubt dropping letters to 5 days would improve their profitability which the union should use to improve our t&cs.

If they don't deliver letters on a Saturday for example they can cut the number of people they have in on a Saturday by half if not more in some places. Didn't they do this during the lockdowns for a few weeks or am I remembering wrong?

I think you might be missing the point there, could well be on a rolling 5 day shift which includes Sat/Sun working

I think it's you who might be missing the point.
No letters mean half the workload.
Half the workload means half the staff therefore no matter what you will be working fewer Saturdays.

Sundays even fewer.

Sundays are voluntary, until that changes, why fear the worst ?

They did in May 2020. And what I heard locally is that it was atrociously resourced. I was so shocked.

With the projected savings the company could potentially go back and make the walks achievable.
They would still make masses of savings going five days even if they had to rebalance the workload to make things achievable again.
Do I believe they would do this?
Or course not.
The company is run for one purpose, to squeeze as much finances as they can for shareholders while running the company at a level just considered acceptable before collapse.

As more and more older/experienced staff leave, and the numbers with Sundays, driving mandatory etc increase as an overall % of staff. I think there'll come a point when RM decide that it's financially worth it to just force through Sunday working, mandatory driving etc, even if they'd lose the ETs as I believe that even if you win an ET, they've no obligation to take you back on
