Good to see the old "us and them" is still alive.

This is why you are all in deep doo-doo.

If you stood united the management wouldn't stand a chance.

Should maybe bring the old sets back, where you did a week on the walks and a week in the MC might open a few eyes both sides

I've never heard of that, was it a thing where you'd have a do in the same building as the mail centre?

You've at least got job security in DOs, many jobs in MCs are probably going to be automated out of existence in the next decade. That same automation will probably eventually sort the work down to a level where delivery staff will just about spend their entire shift out on delivery
No one will be able to walk for 7 hours they would be lucky to get anyone to do that day in day out ,they better start to develop a robot or get all customers to pick up their own parcels and mail, hopefully make us all redundant and do the latter.

The mail centre i worked in has a DO attached to it to

I worked in a mail centre for 10 years and they are a horrible place to work. Awful managers and very nosy staff. Least with delivery you are left to your own devices most of the time.

Couldn't agree more, thrive on each others misery in M.C.

My only experience of working in a mail centre was working in a group of 6 (a bullring?) throwing parcels into the right sleeve.

Someone was stood in a hi viz about 10 feet away watching our every move for the duration of my 5 hour shift. There were about 20 similar bullring groups with 20 hi viz watchers stood by.

‘What’s his job then?’ I asked.
‘That’s a manager. His job is to watch us all day.’

As much as I’m struggling with deliveries now, no way could I work in a MC. One shift was enough for me.
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.

All staff below management are being kicked, and I include all the "trainee" managers in that (there seem to be a lot of them and they seem to be being "trained" for many years) as we have 3 of them and they regularly get sent out doing LATs while the other managers go in and out of the bogs sniffing wildly and getting all over-animated.....
Maybe if RM paid less people to stand around watching us work and more people actually working, the company would run better. With PDA tracking and SISO etc, surely we need less managers as the all seeing system will flag up people who aren't doing the job?
