Re: The Great Seasonal Variation con
Wouldn’t mind this so much if it was just finish 15 mins early in summer and work 15 mins later in run up to Christmas (12 weeks a time) but to compound it with starting later finishing later then this extra half hour flex on top things will just start getting silly. They should scrap the idea and give us the 35hr working week all year round.

Yep. Exactly the same here.norris9 wrote: ↑27 Apr 2023, 15:18Say what!Martin Walsh wrote: ↑27 Apr 2023, 14:46There will be a pilot of 10 units this summer to ensure it reduces absorption in the summer and any further lessons to be learnt.
What's the point in a pilot to see if it reduces absorption?
Thanks to the revisions we have had 40 minutes of delivery added to our frames, which also means around 20 minutes more prep..... therefore we either leave or bring back 60 minutes worth of work each day. If we bring it back then that means 10 minutes the next day to put it back in the frame and that we leave 1 hour, 10 minutes worth of work the next day.
There's no absorption to reduce!
The company is being run by imbeciles.

From agreement:dazzler123 wrote: ↑27 Apr 2023, 17:02could you explain this, how are we being shortchanged on weeks already booked?
1.2.8 Consistent with current agreements Annual leave will be booked in hours versus the
“planned” hours of the season. A typical full timer would have 35 hours deducted for
a full-time week of leave in Summer and 39 in Peak. Exact deductions would be
applied on a daily level based on the work schedules in PSP. Sick leave continues to
be recorded in instances / days.
For to start in middle of leave year is wrong if not booked holidays for this year. Should start April 2024.

Re: The Great Seasonal Variation con
Who in their right mind signs up to working more hours and not getting it paid until 9 months later while the company banks interest on your wages, its basically an IOU,you gotta give it to the Royal Mail they are wiping the floor with the CWU,quick queston if i leave 3 months in will those unpaid hours be put in my last wage packet ,what if i take a month off sick will they ask me to work an extra day next year,if i have leave in the 39 hour weeks will i end up owing the leave next year, this seasonal (annualised) hours is an absolute joke and totally unworkable, hang your heads in shame cwu.

Re: The Great Seasonal Variation con
The absorbtion plus another 80 calls on top has already been added to my frame. I don’t have time to do that let alone any further absorbtion which they are threading to add. Can I get out of the last absorbtion or the next absorbtion if we are doing afew minutes less in the summer?

Seasonal variation just like the longs and shorts are designed to save RM millions of hours of potential overtime.kazardaimenu wrote: ↑27 Apr 2023, 18:56Wouldn’t mind this so much if it was just finish 15 mins early in summer and work 15 mins later in run up to Christmas (12 weeks a time) but to compound it with starting later finishing later then this extra half hour flex on top things will just start getting silly. It's funny that the union promoted the idea of a shorter working week a few years back to reflect bigger outdoor spans due to less indoor hours, and it is in the deal that there is a commitment to work towards that. So why then agree a deal to have posties working more hours in the winter? In the previous deals the union worked hard to get hours reduced!
It would just be easier and more manageable as regards annual leave to have everyone working 35 hours all year round
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

A slight change of topic but I just seen this elsewhere. Any P/T contract that had an uplift would go on to the new term FT contracts. Another victory for the CWU!

“Martin, Martin, Martin, Martin, what about this what about that this is a disgrace”
And folk wonder why there are units with 50+staff who are forced to run without reps.

To be fair, Martin is the only senior CWU to come on here and answer questions / defend this "groundbreaking" deal. He's bound to get it all thrown at him.
If the CWU were professional enouugh to communicate properly with their members, maybe he wouldn't have to.
AND. If you think union members are the problem.... then you're a f*ing sh/t trade unionist.

I don’t think union members are the problem, I think people who like to relentlessly complain whilst doing nothing pro-active to help the union they are part of, are a part of the problem.sindba wrote: ↑27 Apr 2023, 23:56To be fair, Martin is the only senior CWU to come on here and answer questions / defend this "groundbreaking" deal. They're scraping absolutely every ounce of sweat out of everybody.
When do most people have the majority of their annual leave? It's summer. So they're even robbing people of a few extra hours there. Scumbags, new leadership at the CWU please.

What would you have them do? The union is there to help them, in a situation like this they should hardly be helping the union if they strongly disagree with their position.
I'm turning purple!

Re: The Great Seasonal Variation con
That’s not how it works to be fair
You would use less of your entitlement when taking leave in the summer as it’s calculated in hours not days or weeks
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next
