Every poor deal that has been presented to them, that has seen conditions at work worsen, has been voted in. Every. Single. One.
I have never worked with people who have consistantly voted against their own best interests, and instead, voted for the best interests of people like Leighton & Crozier, green, and now this bugger, Thompson, as I have with this company.
I've no doubt whatsoever, that postal workers will revert to type, and vote this shitty deal in, making this job worse, and much more of a unpleasant daily experience.
I'm just glad my time is almost done.
Once the Union has endorsed it though it's usually game over for us all in some way or another.
Cheers for that Dave. Next time I see you in the pub you can buy your own round!! Our company has gone the way your football team has gone this year
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Re: Vote no !
Jesus.
The pay deal is one of the only things that is at the very least adequate. It's 10%, why are people twisting it to make it sound like we got 8% or 3%.... no, it's a 10% total increase. The money you receive each year compared to what you received in the 2021/2022 tax year is equivalent to ~£2,500 a year for a full timer. People aren't happy with that? What do you want? some stamps to go with it?
Complain about the sick pay which will reduce your pay if you are sick X amount of times, the revisions which have reduced the service to that of a 3rd world country, and the later finish times which will send you home in rush hour traffic.

Or 8% over the next 2 years.
What do we want?
How about a pay rise that doesn't erode our standard of living?
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Re: Vote no !
For that we would have needed even more concessions. People are moaning enough already because they will have to deliver ‘in the dark’ forgetting all the times we delivered in the dark back in the day.clashcityrocker wrote: ↑23 Apr 2023, 08:18It is 10% over 3 years.norris9 wrote: ↑23 Apr 2023, 07:57

Re: Vote no !
That was totally different though Lou
We were out well before rush hour traffic and if you were fortunate to get out early enough you would be working in the dark for maybe an hour or so before it got lighter.
If I'm honest I prefer it when we moved to single daily and got out a bit later over 5 days instead of 6. Could there be scope for a later start and finish over 4 days??
It would mean a shorter working week obviously but that's not something I think this Union has thought about.

Re: Vote no !
I can’t believe for 1 second that the union deliberately accepted a poor deal like some of you on here seem to think, yes mistakes were made when planning the strikes but hindsight is a wonderful thing, the union were always fighting a Royal Mail board hell bent on change at any cost, a Royal Mail board that didn’t give a toss if we went out on strike, so yes as crap as the deal is I think it’s the best they could get.
Everyone has a democratic right to vote no and I will respect everyone who has the conviction to vote no, but what I can’t understand is the “ let the business burn” attitude, if the business goes under then so do thousands of jobs many of those will be people who can ill afford to lose their job, I think this is the best deal that we can get and for some maybe the choice isn’t shall I vote no or yes but should I stay or go

I don't reply often but regarding working in the dark.
Years ago, you were starting your walk fresh out of the office, it got lighter as time went by, it was quiet, there weren't many parcels and a PDA to juggle with etc.
Now you would be at the end of your round, tired mentally and physically, knowing it is getting darker and colder, wondering who is out and about.
It is the main thing that will make me vote NO.

I suppose the question is do you think it’s likely we can get a better deal or will voting NO mean the current bad deal offered will be taken off the table and become worse.scotchy1962 wrote: ↑23 Apr 2023, 07:25I find myself in unchartered territory here in that i actually agree with you FB, well up to a point, i will vote no. Its all downhill from here for me as i will now have to take on the FB mantra and diss the union every chance i get....... Nah it isnt going to happen.FilthyBloke wrote: ↑22 Apr 2023, 15:47Thankfully, I don’t get to vote. Yes young man, by doing this you can loose your job when the company collapses, then loose your house when you cant afford the mortgage but at least you wont have any bills to worry about!
You can eat scraps of food given to you by strangers, but dont worry your kids and wife will be fine because they will leave you and go and live with an adult who has a job!
Vote no!!
The next revision things will be worse.
I think it’s time to accept that change is finally here or you can fight a lost cause.
I dont think RM will budge, well not unless they are made too and the next revision will be worse, but then again its hardly rocket science for that one, when has a revision ever been good its always worse hence why they happen more and more.
As for the defeatist "accept the change" and "fight a lost cause" its as well our ancestors didnt have that attitude or we would all be talking a different language. Sometimes you have to draw a line in the sand and say "do your worst" i respect your opinion as that is how you have been consistantly on here, but that doesnt mean i agree.
The deal, as you have recognised, is not acceptable in its current form.
Personally, I think it would make it worse because every deal offered since the strikes has become worse.

Re: Vote no !
Good post. Everybody will make their choice. A yes vote we get the deal, regroup and fight the next battle. The CWU has learnt some salutory lessons in tactics so it will be more street wise in the future. Lose a battle BUT WIN THE WAR. A no vote is a total unknown. I keep seeing posts on here from people who think RM should be destroyed rather than accept the deal. These same people also think that the government will bail RM out. The government don't care about people dying due to NHS industrial action so it certainly won't care about undelivered letters and parcels. Are we willing to gamble jobs and call RMs bluff? In the words of the song The Gambler " you got to know when to hold em, know when to fold em".Belgium wrote: ↑23 Apr 2023, 09:17I can’t believe for 1 second that the union deliberately accepted a poor deal like some of you on here seem to think, yes mistakes were made when planning the strikes but hindsight is a wonderful thing, the union were always fighting a Royal Mail board hell bent on change at any cost, a Royal Mail board that didn’t give a toss if we went out on strike, so yes as crap as the deal is I think it’s the best they could get.

The devil was always going to be in the detail and unless the union can get the vagueness out of a lot of what they are proposing i can never get behind it, reason being as we are all aware unless it is clearer than a clear thing on a clear day the management will beat us with their big sticks and say we agreed to it. Get some clarity into what they propose and how they intend to beat us with it and at least we can make our minds up.
Management will always try to use things to their advantage and unless nipped in the bud now we will suffer in the future.

Re: Vote no !
It is a fair point, but we would only be delivering for about an hour in the dark anyway, when the finishes move to 4.30pm, if they even do for your office. I have more sympathy for people having to make arrangements for picking up kids from school etc, but there aren’t many businesses out there that make concessions for family friendly practises. That disappeared when RM became a for-profit private business obsessed with money. Even if they change jobs, they are going to have to make arrangements likewise.postslippete wrote: ↑23 Apr 2023, 08:58That was totally different though Lou
